"Great value, modern hotel"
We stayed for 3 nights and found the hotel to be a perfect base to explore the city. The hotel is modern, rooms spacious and comfortable (although the pillows a little soft). The free breakfast is a nice, simple start to the day. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Neighbourhood has lots of local and chain options to eat and fun bars too and is a safe area to hang out. A short and cheap car ride from the historical centre.

"Low cost hotel very close to the metro"
The hotel staff spoke some English which was nice because my Spanish is not great and they were very friendly. The train is only a five minute walk which was really nice. The room is a little out dated and the bed wasn't very soft. There is also no iron in the room as listed on Expedia, but I was able to get a hairdryer upon request. It has a nice courtyard and you can get good wifi while out there, it was only so-so in the room.

" historic district budget hotel a gem of a find"
The airport taxi dropped me 2 blocks from the hotel (closer not possible due to one-way street system, driver said) so travelled on foot, with luggage, through densely packed pedestrian & vehicle traffic to get there. A bit scary. The hotel entrance is actually on quiet San Ildefonso, not Carmen, & leads into a 3 tiered light-filled tiled atrium, where I was greeted by Rosy at the front desk. In contrast, my pre-booked room initially seemed dark even though it had a window onto the street but I soon adjusted. The beds are super firm which I prefer so not a problem. Rooms are small but who goes to authentic Mexico City to sit in a hotel room. Was out each morning before the many street vendors & storefronts on Carmen had opened up & the mass pedestrian traffic had accumulated & rarely returned 'til after sunset by which time the very noisy street activity was closing down. But, be warned, the interior of this small 18thC hotel is an echo chamber so good ear plugs advisable for sleeping through any night activity in the atrium or elsewhere. Only vended snack food available that I was aware of but there's a decent coffee dispenser in the lobby & you can pick up wonderful pastries, croissants etc from any of many centro bakeries for a simple early breakfast on the hotel's lovely rooftop patio. For departure to airport, Lara called a taxi that not only came right to the door but got me there in 15-20 mins. Gracias, Rosy, Lara, Elvira. Love MC & your little hotel. I'll be back.

"Filthy linens and old towels"
When I arrived, no one was at the front desk, and the lobby seemed abandoned, waited for 20 minutes until reception clerk came out of the elevator, when he asked me for my reservation, he said that he was completely booked and that there was no more space available, that expedia over booked me. He made some arrangements and found me the 2 most filthy rooms in the building, the towels where all ragged and the pillows where super filthy. I was so tired I slept with no pillow. If that did not seem to be enough, there was no water in the building; I had to wash my hands, face and teeth with a water bottle, next morning, after some screaming from what I think was half the visitors, the water got connected again. I had a long talk with the cleaning lady and for the next night I had a poorly clean room but a fresh set of linens.
