About this property

Surrounded By Trees And In View Of The Skagit Bay

Waterfront cabin with kitchen and patio
This is a comfortable and cozy A-frame cabin in a semi woodsy setting, but it also has a yard with open space. You can see the Skagit Bay through the trees, which is about 150 yards from the house. The home is fully set up with all amenities for your comfort and enjoyment. There is an outdoor firepit as well. The cabin has a queen size bed and a twin size trundle bed upstairs. Downstairs there is a long twin daybed and a full size futon. Up to six are accepted. This property is a nice casual relaxing getaway to nature that also has many nearby cultural attractions to check if you want as well. It has nice style and character. It has casual, comfortable and cool vintage furnishings. The cabin has wifi and internet. Pets are allowed on the main floor. There's great boating and fishing in the bay and multiple small uninhabited islands that you can explore. Bring your boat and fishing gear or rent kayaks in town. The beach stretches for miles and Deception Pass is very close by. There are a couple places that do whale watching tours and also others that do guided fishing. There are lots of beautiful quiet roads to bike or walk on. There are lots of good restaurants to experience. Some of my favorite are Nell Thorn, the LaConner Brewery, Tweets, and Maripoza. There are a number of bars to check out as well as music happenings there too. There is a big art scene in the area and frequently there are good shows at the many local galleries and the Museum of Northwest Art in LaConner. There are a few live theatres and a movie theatre in Anacortes and Mount Vernon. It's also close to Anacortes if you want to take a ferry ride and explore the San Juan Islands. You can rent kayaks in town and explore the Skagit Bay and the Skagit River. There are lots of uninhabited islands you can go onto and a few miles of beach to walk. There is lots of good local produce and meats that can be gathered. The Skagit Valley is considered the bread basket of this region and there is also a lot of seafood. There are multiple farmers markets, Snow Goose Produce, a Co-op, The Breadfarm, Rexville Grocery. There are a number of bars and small town bands with dancing. There is a bowling alley and a public pool in Anacortes which are always fun outings. The bowling alley has a restaurant inside of it that has good fish and chips. Great rustic cabin... but don’t go on the porch!!!

Loved the cabin and location to everything for the price. We never did figure out how to walk to the beach which was disappointing, but still enjoyed the neighbourhood. A couple suggestions: - replace the deck!! The deck has rotten beams and my kids almost fell a story down to the concrete. Many posts aren’t secure at the bottom and light leaning on them caused them to give way. I was going to move some of the planters infront of them, but then noticed those planters were already in front of other posts that were missing. Lock the door going to the deck and put up a warning sign until it’s effectively fixed!!! Please please please. I would had for a kid to get hurt or worse. - add the lock box code in the email that is sent out from homeaway. Not everyone has a cell phone to get a phone call the day of access (ie international travellers)!

Terrible communication with owner, cabin not cleaned

The week we were to leave on our trip some issues arose that were going to potentially prevent us from leaving. I looked on the listing to see the refund policies which clearly state no refunds. I reached out to Martin, the owner, to ask confirm this policy and ask a couple days in advance if he was able to refund any of our rental fees. He confirmed no ‘he was a shrewd businessman’ and didn’t care if I couldn’t make it- no refunds. I can think of many other ways to convey that information without being a jerk about it. No worries, we scrambled to deal with our issues and make it to leave on-time. I messaged him the day of our check-in (clearly stated on the site as the method he prefers for sending the code to check-in) that we were able to make it and please send the door code. 3 phone calls, 2 messages, 2 voicemails and several hours later he finally responds (AFTER the check-in time of our first day) and messages he didn’t think we were coming and the house isn’t cleaned. We never said we weren’t coming, only had inquired about the refund policy. If you’re keeping 100 percent of my money you can be sure I’m going to do all I can to make it to my vacation. He offered to credit us the cleaning fee as the house wasn’t cleaned or ready to check in. The beds were stripped of sheets, not enough clean towels, we had to hunt around for 20 minutes to find the proper sized sheets to make the beds ourselves. I messaged him this and he never once apologized for the miscommunication (on his part) or for the inconvenience of making beds ourselves. Martin did NOT refund our cleaning fee, and if I could have given him zero stars for communication I would have. What a jerk and a bad memory for our special occasion (anniversary) Not that the occasion matters more than giving polite and prompt customer service to a paying customer. Martin doesn’t care about your experience- only your money.

I enjoyed our Christmas there with our kids but will not go back.

The cabin was adorable but had issues. It was not as secluded as it appeared in the photos. There were balls of long white dog hair on the floor with an abundance of it under the very uncomfortable couch. The bathroom was unclean with hair on the toilet and toothpaste all over the sink. Our first night there we tried to make soup on the stove and the burner caught fire. My husband had to clean the burner trays, one had holes all over it so he wrapped it in foil. After cleaning those he noticed a puddle of grease underneath the stovetop and needed to clean that as well. I love the idea of a rustic cabin but the cobwebs were everywhere. We also could not find a fire extinguisher.
