Great House on the Horseshoe of the Guadalupe River with Direct River Access
This is my second year staying at this property. Here is my review. ►PROS: • LOCATION. This property is located in Canyon Lake along the Guadalupe River. As of this review, this is the ONLY rental property that is ON the Horseshoe WITH direct river access. If you are looking into staying in this area, this is a great spot because of the river access and proximity to tubing outfitters. • FLOATING. If you are thinking about floating the river, this location is phenomenal. You can take a short walk to Shanty Tubes, rent a tube, then float the Horseshoe. The river will bring you right back by the property. You can finish the float and then walk home. (Or bring your own tubes and walk up to the top of the Horseshoe, then float back to the house. Probably a 15-20 minute walk). • PARKING. There is a very large front yard that provides tons of parking. Parking will never be an issue for you. • GROUNDS/RIVER ACCESS. The grounds are great. The deck behind the house is spacious. You can't tell from the pictures, but from the deck overlooking the river there is a set of stairs that go down straight to the river. You can go down to the river and hang out on the water, watching tubers float by. There is a firepit, but we didn't end up using it. Also, despite being next door to two houses, the property does feel pretty private. • HOUSE. The house is gorgeous and well-decorated, but you can see that from the pics. The beds are comfy. The charcoal grill works great. The shower pressure is solid. We had a full group and never ran out of hot water. The house is stocked with all the supplies you should need for cooking, cleaning, etc. • OWNERS. Owners were always quick to respond and had excellent communication. They were easygoing and helpful. ►CONS: • STEEP HILL. If you are in poor shape, take warning that the hill behind the back deck of the house is STEEP. Not a big deal, but just keep in mind. • NO WIFI. As best I can tell, the house did not have wifi. • NO BATHROOM VENTS. The bathrooms do not have vents. I solved this problem by showering with the door open so the mirrors wouldn't fog up. • NO OUTDOOR POWER. There are no power outlets outside the house. We wanted to be able to power devices down at the deck overlooking the river, so we had to run an extension cord from inside a bedroom window. (If you plan to do that, 150 feet of extension cord will reach the deck overlooking the river). ►OVERALL: Great house. Great location. Great owners.
