Niagara Regional Municipality

Ontario
Niagara-on-the-Lake showing landscape views and heritage architecture
The famous Niagara Falls cascades complement the scenic leafy terrain, vineyards and open green spaces of this popular Canadian region.

At the southern end of the so-called Golden Horseshoe, visit the Niagara Regional Municipality, an area with some of the world’s most iconic highlights. The gushing flow of Niagara Falls crashes down at the region’s eastern end, on the border with the United States. Come for the falls and stay for nearby vineyards and impressive landmarks.

Niagara Falls is known throughout the world, consisting of three sets of cascades that crash down over the border between the U.S. and Canada. Marvel at the sheer size of the largest, known as Horseshoe Falls. Think about how the combined water flow of the three chutes produces the highest flow rate of any waterfall in North America.

Join a cruise on the water or reach the peak of the Skylon Tower for some of the best views. The Niagara SkyWheel offers an exceptional setting by the falls, while Niagara Helicopters take you right above them.

For something a little different, bicycle along the Niagara Wine Route to appreciate the area’s vineyards and wineries. A trip with the Niagara Wine Tour Guides will give you a comprehensive understanding of the grape varieties here. Stop for a tasting at the Jackson-Triggs-Niagara Estate, the Peller Estates winery or the Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery, among many others scattered across the rolling hills.

Practice your golf swing at one of the great local courses, such as Rolling Meadows Golf & Country Club, Royal Niagara Golf Club and Sawmill Golf Course. Make sure to explore the attractions in the cities of St. Catharines, Thorold and Niagara Falls.

The Niagara Regional Municipality area includes 12 municipalities in southern Ontario, marking the U.S. border. It lies between Buffalo in New York state and the city of Hamilton on the Canadian side, while Lake Ontario and Lake Erie skirt the sides. Fly into the Buffalo Niagara International Airport and rent a car to travel around.
