Run Away, Run Away
It is difficult to express how disappointed we were with this property. We have been using Vrbo for approximately five years. This year alone we have logged about 90 nights with Vrbo. In all those visits we have NEVER encountered a worse property or a less helpful host. First of all, the apartment is not truly habitable at this time (March) of year. Being below grade, the heat pump struggles to raise the temperature above 69 degrees. The breakfast room (den) is unheated and hence unusable. Which means that we had no place to eat meals, except the coffee table in the living room. There are many things we did not know: the “newly refinished” floors are cement; there is no railing on the uneven, dis-repaired steps leading down to the front door; children and at least one dog frolic upstairs. Other complaints: the website is out of date; the sliding glass doors in the shower (shown in the Vrbo ad) have been replaced with a plastic shower curtain; the living room blinds are broken; there is a huge spider web on the glass of the breakfast room, complete with carcasses. The TV failed to work four of our first five nights. We fled to a hotel for our sixth and seventh nights. There was a general lack of instructions, for example: TV controls, heating system controls. When these issues were raised we received only empty promises from the owner: nothing was addressed. We asked that our money be refunded. It was not.

Perfect Location
We enjoyed our stay in Richmond. The “Downtown Hideaway “ was in a perfect location. We walked or rode our bikes almost every place we wanted to go. The kitchen worked well for us, the bed was comfortable. And Chris was quick to answer questions.

Charming hideaway
What an adorable place! Comfortable and a little quirky, in a neighborhood with lots of charm that was a quick ride to where we wanted to go. The host was communicative and helpful. If you're a light sleeper the occasional morning noise from upstairs may bother you (footsteps, a barking dog) but it wasn't a problem for the three of us. My favorite feature was the sun room. I'll stay here again if I find myself in Richmond.

Little Gem
Very clean, nicely decorated, well supplied, convenient to Broad Street. Nice neighborhood. No problem parking on the street or behind townhouse. The renters upstairs were very nice and not noisy even though they have a child, dog and cat. My husband and I are mid 60’s to 70. We walked to several restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can also cook for yourself. Full kitchen as well as a washing machine/dryer! We will be back whenever we visit Richmond and can’t stay with our daughter.

Jackson Ward
The apartment is nice and the bed in the main bedroom is comfortable. The kitchen and bathroom are very efficient. There is no information on the area, i.e. restaurants, places to visit. The kitchen could use a few basic items such as dish towels. salt and pepper, etc.. Overall a nice apartment.

Lovely stay
The property was two blocks from our daughter, so the location was perfect, just what we were looking for. Plus easy walk to good restaurants and the new ICA. Good parking in the alley and easy front and back entrances. The tenant upstairs was very sweet. The overall street seemed friendly and quiet. The apartment was spacious with comfy bed, nice shower and updated kitchen. Being allergic to some dogs, I am very appreciative of owners who make extra effort to clean. With that and being mindful, I had minimal problems and would stay again.

Nice place- convenient and cozy
My 11 year old and I shared the bedroom queen and my Aunt stayed in the living room on the pull-out couch. Was warm and cozy- nice kitchen, and was thrilled to find the French press! The den/sunroom and book collection were quite a bonus! And the fenced backyard was great for the dog. And a great shower (even the 11 year old commented on it)

Well appointed, comfortable and great location!
We spent a week exploring the area and visiting friends. This was a perfect spot, particularly with our two dogs. There is a park a block away, so nice walks were easy. With a fenced backyard, a quick out was always an option. Easy access to I-95 and to major surface streets made navigating around Richmond a breeze.

Perfect for us
We were between homes—-sold our Norfolk house and had five days before closing on our Richmond house—-and needed a place to stay with our dog, this was perfect for us with a large fenced in yard for the puppy Owner was very responsive so we had no worries!

Very nice and as advertised.
Only issue was that you had to go thru the bedroom to get to the only table to sit and eat. Not a big issue. Quiet however no one living in the space above and during an open house the noise from the foot traffic could be an issue.

Good for a weekend in Richmond
The apartment is attractive, comfortable, and centrally located. There is a nice selection of restaurants within a mile or so. This is a basement unit and we could hear the tenants above walking up the stairs and moving around in their unit whenever they were home. Other than that, it was a great place to stay while we explored Richmond.

Wonderful Host! Loved the Area and Pet Friendly!
We booked last minute due to hurricane evac and took our pets with us. We stayed 5 days. The place is extremely pet friendly with nice floors. Kitchen updated, washer/dryer, bathroom updated with large shower. LOVED the class enclosed porch! Backyard big enough for several dogs to romp around (just make sure to clean up after your pets!). Queen bed, pull out couch, and air mattress available. TV with netflix capabilities, great WIFI, and fireplace. We slept 4 of us in there plus 4 pets, and it was cramped but still workable. TOTALLY recommend this place for the area and for no-frills place to stay. Host is very responsive and we had no issues. We bought some glade fresheners to brighten the house because it is a basement unit and can hold some musty odors. No big deal! We had evacuated our roomba as well, so that was nice to stay running to keep the floor clean, but they have a nice vacuum, too! Thank you for such a great stay!

Comfortable basement apartment
Stayed 7/31-8/4/2018 The rental was easy to find and parking readily available except for Friday night. Good place to stay for a home base if exploring in and around Richmond. Internet not working until our last night there but owner did all he could to rectify. This is listed as a pet friendly rental. We did not bring a pet but did find dog hair on furniture as well as when floor was swept. When we arrived the sitting area facing the inner courtyard smelled of dog but the smell was not noticeable the next day - blankets also smelled of dog The unit has a washer/ dryer one unit machine so could not start second load of laundry until First was washed and dried which took forever- two large bath towels filled the drum and took over 2 1/2 hours for wash/dry and still damp at end of cycle. So do not recommend for more than 2 guests unless you are ok with not doing laundry Appreciated the iron and ironing board as well as the twin blow up mattress. The living room furniture comfortable but very worn Bed was very comfortable and the galley kitchen was beautiful though it had only one dish towel A bit of landscaping especially in the inner courtyard would make this place a gem Recommendations for improvement- more dish towels, a couple more bath towels where laundry takes so long, a thorough cleaning between guests especially after one that stayed with a dog It was a comfortable unit temp wise and would stay again- do recommend- just check cleanliness And if you want a great place to eat go to “Lucy’s” excellent food, great prices, and lovely atmosphere!

Comfortable bed....
The apartment was clean, remodeled, and had good air conditioning The bed was incredibly comfortable. It is located in a downtown historic district, but with that often comes some properties that have not been well maintained and trash. I could not give more than three stars due to the fact the resident above was in the process of moving out the three days we were there. With him staying up much of the night and the moving van for two days, it was pretty noisy. It was quite a walk down to the river, but there was parking available to take a car. For the price, there was a good amount of space especially with the enclosed patio in the back.

Great place in a convenient location
My wife and I stayed at this apartment for a month, and we found it to be perfect for our extended stay in Richmond. The apartment is well laid out and includes essentials (stocked w/kitchen supplies, extra towels and linens, etc) you need for a comfortable stay. The neighborhood is a convenient downtown location, close to any area you may want to be in Richmond. Lastly, Chris was a very responsive and friendly host. Highly recommend this place for your next stay in Richmond!

Another Splendid Visit
This is the second time my husband and I have rented this apartment. Our daughter & son-in-law live about 5 minutes away so it's location for us is perfect. It's actually relatively close to I-95 so that's easy to access; not really far from Carey Street, the government center & other area sightseeing spots. The apartment is always clean, comfy bed; I still didn't get to have my coffee out in what I call the "reading" room/all windows ... maybe next time. We certainly will book here again .. in fact, this time the place wasn't available the week-end we planned to visit Richmond, so we changed our date to a week-end that it was .. Thanks Chris for having us back
