Find hotels in Strete from $60

The best area to stay in Strete is directly within the village itself, particularly along the A379, which offers direct access to the coast and local amenities.

The village of Strete is a small, linear settlement perched on a hillside overlooking Start Bay. Its main characteristic is its coastal position, with many properties offering sea views. The A379 runs through the center of the village, providing easy access to Dartmouth in one direction and Kingsbridge in the other. There's a village shop for essentials and a local pub, making it a convenient base for a quiet, self-catering stay.

For couples seeking a tranquil getaway, Strete is an excellent choice. The area is known for its peaceful environment and scenic walks along the South West Coast Path, which is easily accessible from the village. The opportunity to enjoy stunning sea views from your accommodation, combined with the quiet pace of village life, creates a relaxing experience.

Families also find Strete appealing due to its proximity to the beach at Strete Gate, which is just a short walk or drive down the hill. This shingle beach is generally less crowded than some of the larger sandy beaches, providing a relaxed environment for children to play and explore the shoreline.

The best time to visit Strete is during the late spring and summer months, specifically from May to September, when the weather is most pleasant for exploring the coast and countryside.

During these months, you'll experience warmer temperatures and longer daylight hours, making it ideal for enjoying outdoor activities like walking the South West Coast Path, relaxing on Strete Gate Beach, or visiting nearby attractions like the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth. This period also sees the highest number of local events and open attractions.

For those who prefer a quieter visit with fewer crowds, late spring (May and early June) or early autumn (September) are excellent choices. The weather is still generally mild, and you can enjoy the natural beauty of the area without the peak season bustle. This time is particularly good for couples seeking a peaceful retreat.
