"We enjoyed staying at Ito-en Annex. It was a walkable distance from the Ito Station. They offer onsen (hot springs, “onsen meguri”) in the other two Ito-en hotels for the guests (Ito-en annex/bekkan, Ito-en Matsukawa, Ito-en honkan (main), which are on the same street. They list the time frame where guests can go to other Ito-en’s onsen (e.g., ends at 9:00pm if I remember correctly). We choose the half board option with buffet style dinner and breakfast. Dinner - was booked for 8.30pm in response to staff demand. 8pm staff demanded we go to dinner directly after onsen. Told us dinner had been waiting cooked for 20 mins! "

"I took the taxi so I couldn’t say about the free shuttle, but the onsen was perfect that I would return again. The sushi in the Hakone dining buffet was fresh. The unlimited amount of alcohol in the buffet surprised me. The Mountain View from the private bath and the 6th floor open air bath were so pretty. The staff was cordial too. The room was so nice that I didn’t feel like going outside for my stay. There’s an underpass within the hotel that takes you to morinoyu and the kowaiken water park for the family. I would definitely go again soon and recommend it for people experiencing an onsen for the first time."

"The staff here was very inflexible. Too many rules that aren’t communicated ahead of time. We expected to be able to have dinner at the hotel and were told they couldn’t accommodate us. Do not plan to arrive before 3pm as your room won’t be ready and you can not use any of the facilities. We were forced to wander the little town in the pouring rain. It was a lot to get out to this resort for one day. We would skip it next time and go straight to Kyoto "
