The air conditioning was not working, so it got uncomfortably warm in my room. The rooftop restaurant advertised is no longer open. "I had an absolutely terrible experience at The New Yorker Hotel. After my stay, I was hit with a $500 "smoking fee" despite the fact that I do not smoke and did not smoke in the room. This is a blatant cash grab and a complete lack of integrity on the hotel's part. When I tried to resolve this on-site, the lack of professionalism was staggering. I requested to speak with a manager and was simply handed a business card. I have reached out multiple times to the contact provided, but they have completely ignored my messages. I also asked for a manual check (instead of automated sensor) to check for smoke and was denied. Attempting to dispute the charge has been a nightmare because of their refusal to communicate. Warning to future travelers: Stay elsewhere. There are plenty of hotels in New York that won't slap you with fraudulent fees and then hide behind a non-responsive management team. This was a dishonest and stressful experience from start to finish."
