8.8/10 Excellent! (903 reviews)
First - I am a well traveled global road warrior - who spent years on the road and even slept in the ground (infantry grunt). I am hard to displease...
Though I have never been in the French Quarter - or to NOLA at all for that matter - so I was not sure what to expect. The hotel is aged, locked up tight - and reasonable for the price. It was nice to have parking around the corner in a good spot. The proximity to a coffee shop right across the street is also noteworthy!
I was in Room #8. I had an 'upgraded' room so I could sit on the balcony. To get out there, you had to lift giant bay windows and duck underneath the opened pair to access. It worked - but it wasn't what I expected. The street was incredibly noisy - the window seal (door?) doesn't seal very well so noise is a big issue. Cars, boomboxes on bicycles, and drunk 'patrons' strolling the streets made for a restless night.
I was NOT happy with the bathroom. The toilet is in a closet that is no wider than my shoulders - literally. knees against the wall and shoulders touching the walls results in a very, very, VERY inefficient space for taking care of business. There is not enough room to - - - - 'do whatcha gotta do'. The shower required some navigation - the balance of the dual-dial system took some care and attempts to get the hot water to actually flow.
Beyond these issues, the rest was unremarkable. Would I go back? Perhaps - but not that room. Experience was - meh.
