The location was convenient - serving as a good mid point between the beach and Tulum Centro and an easy walk to restaurants and shops which we appreciated. The hotel offers complimentary bikes which were useful for getting around, although they were fairly basic and difficult to use. Staff were friendly on arrival, housekeeping was good, and the daily social hour with a different cocktail each day was a nice touch. Breakfast was also good, with a reasonable but small buffet selection and some dishes available to order. However, the rooms felt dark, dingy and poorly ventilated, with condensation and a noticeable damp smell. We initially had a ground-floor room and asked to move upstairs, which was slightly better. On the whole, the rooms (and hotel) felt tired and in need of a refurb. Amenities were fairly minimal – for example there were no tea or coffee making facilities or slippers, or a hand held shower head which we would usually expect at a hotel of this level. That said, reception provided us a kettle when we asked for one. Although it was nice to be in nature, we felt the grounds were much more overgrown and rustic than the photos suggest, which was the reason for the hotel feeling dark. The lower pool area was peaceful but could have used better maintenance as it was often covered in leaves and had some missing tiles. Moreover, Jesus and Amay make your stay extremely easy, comfortable and enjoyable. Truly top tier ! My stay at kimpton aluna was perfect. Everyday i enjoyed a light breakfast as part of the buffet we paid for. You can order off the menu if you’re hungry but I never felt it necessary. From there, you can take one of the bikes on sight (complimentary) and go visit the local sights like the beach, the tulum ruins, the national park or the amazing dining options. Everything is within a 20 min walk (max) or 10-15 min bike ride. You can also rent a scooter if you find that convenient, but walking and biking will be your best friends while you’re here. If you’d like nice dining options, there’s something for every meal around the hotel. The food scene in the area is really top tier. If you’d like to go on local adventures, highly recommend you work with Jesus/Amay to book a trip to Chicen Itza using the Easy Tours agency they work with. It was nice and well worth the price. Any other service you may need here (like airport shuttle) is also easiest if you go through Jesus and Amay, they’ve got the hookup. 15 out of 10 stay, tx staff! As far as the room, pool facilities, really really top tier. Very comfortable and enjoyable stay.
