The rooms & entire property are updated, clean & very comfortable. The location is central, perfect to explore by foot or short taxi rides, and has bars/restaurants, grocery & convenience stores within easy walking distance. We had a suite this time and, wow, it will be hard to go back to a regular room." The grounds & hotel were beautiful and well-kept, and we especially enjoyed the live entertainment each night. However, some parts of the stay didn’t meet expectations. The excursions and activities booked through the property were quite expensive, and we didn’t feel they matched the value for what we paid. A recurring issue during our stay was the in-room TV, it displayed another guest’s name and room number. Despite visiting the front desk multiple times and having maintenance come by, the issue was never resolved. This was concerning since the TV shows billing details and messages. Restaurant options were limited, and while the food was delicious, portions were small and meals pricey, often around $75 or more for two without alcohol. Most staff members spoke limited English, so communication could be tricky at times. Washcloths weren’t provided automatically, we had to request them. The pool closes when the sun sets and reopens only after morning cleaning, so swimming hours are limited. Be sure to use the mosquito wipes provided, those little things are sneaky and persistent! If you’re not fluent in Spanish, I wouldn’t recommend driving, most road signs & directions are all in Spanish, and driving customs differ from the U.S. Despite the hiccups, the service, scenery, and local charm made the trip memorable especially seeing traffic stop completely to let a sloth cross the road!"
