Panama Hotel & Resort Travel Guide

Because Panama is enviably located southeast of Costa Rica, has both shores next to the Caribbean Sea, and enjoys a uniform tropical climate, hotels in Panama are rapidly becoming popular tourist destinations for travelers from every part of the planet. Situated between North and South America, Panama is well known for the vibrancy of its urban life and for having top-quality water sports activities available on a year-round basis. The word Panama actually means "an abundance of fish" in the native language.

Visitors to Panama hotels have access to two separate oceans, mountain ranges, exposure to native cultures, some of the world's oldest rain forests, and colorful, eclectic urban life. Prices in Panama are more reasonable than in other locations in the Caribbean, and it is frequently possible for families or other groups of people who are traveling together to obtain discount rates on Panama hotel packages through professional tourism companies such as Expedia.

Located only nine degrees away from the equator, the weather in Panama experiences very little seasonal variation. However, the best time to make reservations for cheap hotel deals in Panama is during the month of December through the month of March because there is an extremely low chance of precipitation during this time period. If you are in search of good Panama hotel deals, though, you should investigate whether it might be an option for you to book rooms during the rainy season.

Panama's rainy season still features balmy temperatures, and mornings and afternoons are generally sunny and pleasant during this time. Late afternoons and evenings can be rainy at times. Most of Panama is warm enough at night so that visitors do not need to wear jackets during the evening, but you will want to pack at least one piece of lightweight outerwear if you are going to be making any overnight visits to locations with higher elevations such as Cerro Punta and Boquete.

Plant lovers will be enthralled by the abundance of plant varieties made possible by the region's tropical climate and variations in elevation and terrain. Many of the plants that are sold as houseplants in the United States and other countries grow wild within Panama's borders particularly on the floors of the area's rain forests.

Expedia can help you find just the right cheap Panama hotel deal for the special tropical vacation that you and your traveling companions have been dreaming about.

A good choice for our family who after four days in the city wanted to experience a Panamanian all inclusive and relax on a beach for a few days. Nice clean beach. Very good food. Nice staff and rooms. Grounds and pool bars and bathrooms need some work. Activities limited.

    "Sprawling all-inclusive resort beachside. "
As a local, I would rate Decameron as three stars. There were no high end optional upgrades offered to us, even though I saw at least one banner about it. They had a lot more staff working than at other resorts. The staff was sometimes friendly, but many times they were enforcing unseen rules like no soda until lunch and no food outside of the eating area. Some restaurants were open for breakfast, but from 7-8am and if you for there at 8am they would turn you away to one of the other restaurants. The resort was quite large, so walking from one to the other took at least 5 minutes walking if you were young and able. I was there with elderly parents, and being turned away cost us a 20 minute detour. There were little busses (square passenger vans) that shuttled guests around, but there wasn't a schedule. The best way to get one was to request it from security. Additionally, the little busses shared the road with the pedestrians. I had to be vigilant about holding on to my 6 year old whIle we waited on the side for the little busses to pass. The food was very mediocre and mostly buffet style. All drinks including water had to be requested by waiters at the table or at the bar. There wwere 8 restaurants, but a lot of the food options were the same in at least 3 of the 8 restaurants. The desserts were the same at lunch and dinner and at the different restaurants.

Radisson Summit Hotel and Golf Panama

"Great hotel in the rainforest. "
Great hotel but a $50 taxi ride from airport. No hotel shuttle do to distance. Taxi rates are set by governing authorities but they try to squeeze a bit more out of you if you let them. Two night stay about perfect. Excellent breakfast buffett until 1030am This is a golf resort. For golfers it's a beautiful course ..some bad spots due to lots of rain and idiots on golf carts. Daily free shuttle to Mira Flores locks and Albrook mall at 1030am. Taxi it back. I stayed midweek...really quiet but they say weekends are very busy with locals. Rooms very nice and huge shower. A/C was working but not eliminating moisture well. Things in room seemed very wet but it's a rainforest. This is a great priced hotel in a great location. Out of city but not far. Cheaper than Gamboa which is too far with nothing around it. Hotel restaurant only option in the evening. If you want lots of food choices stay in the city and enjoy the traffic.

    Gamboa Rainforest Resort

Zona 5 Gamboa, Gamboa - Map
"Good place to visit to experience the rain forest."
It's about the only place to stay in rain forest. Apparently no place to eat other than the hotel; the food is good but expensive. Note that you can have the dinner buffet as individual parts (hot meal, salad bar and/or desert bar). Best thing to do is skip the tours and ask them to take you to the Pipeline Road a couple of miles away. It's a mostly gravel path into the rain forest, can be muddy. Take water and mosquito repellent. It will be hot and sweaty. Get a guide from the hotel to go with you and help spot/explain wildlife if you don't want to be alone. 3-4 hours for the whole thing. We did just the first part and saw plenty of monkeys. You can also visit the butterfly house, frog house and orchid garden on your own - walk there or ask for a ride on their passenger trucks. In the same area as these 3 is wildlife rescue (independent from the resort, but housed in one of their buildings) - currently they have sloths, a cute young porcupine, and a young jaguar you can see close up. You will need to have the tour desk arrange a time to visit the wildlife rescue.
