"Okay older motel near 5 star attractions. "
Stopover on drive down the coast. Ate dinner at an excellent restaurant across Highway 101. Saw Devil's Punch Bowl, had world famous chowder in town before the whale watching cruise the next day. Front desk curmudgeon may not have found his niche--complained about doing his job and late night calls. Dated facility which felt nostalgic to this baby boomer. Overall okay.

As we opened the door to our room, the sun was shining thru the windows and we could see whales spouting in the ocean.

"A Wonderful, intimate most awesome place to stay!"
This was my first trip to the West Coast. I am a native Floridian, so I was quite excited about my first night on the beach. I never expected, in my wildest dreams, a view like we had. We had the suite called the "cukoos nest", and I recommend booking it. The water was crashing on the rocks directly below our long balcony. (Equipped with a hot tub) there was an expansive view up and down the coast, with the mouth of the harbor right there. (Worlds smallest navigable ) We were warmly greeted by Sarah, like we were old friends. She excitedly gave us a tour of the suite, showing us how to operate the fireplaces ( yes, two! One in the living room one in the bedroom. ) The walls of glass overlooking the ocean in both the bedroom and living room were georgeous!!! Sarah was eager to recommend things to do and a wonderful restaurant to dine at. Being a real local made her a wonderful resource. Then, breakfast the next morning........ oh my gosh!! Fresh baked pastries of all types, fruits, homemade chive spread........ 5 juices, on and on! My only regret is it was only one night. If we are ever in the area again, we WILL be back. Thank you Sarah, Mae and the wonderful and interesting lady that prepared our beautiful breakfast bounty. ( sorry we didn't get your name ) Please, if ever you stay on the Oregon Coast, come home to this place!

Pocket Guide: Central Oregon Coast Depoe Bay 2 stars Hotels

Touted as the world's smallest harbor, Depoe Bay offers panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, and frequent lookout points are found throughout the picturesque Oregon Coast town, which is also famous for its handmade saltwater taffy. The Whale Watching Center helps visitors observe the approximately 20,000 whales that pass by the coast each year, particularly from August to October.
