Due to a wildfire in the area, I called the day of our check-in to request a cancellation or rebook to a different date. The highway leading into Ouray was closed and law enforcement was urging people to stay away. I was told that as I booked through Expedia it was impossible to change the reservation and that they had a clear policy of no refund less than 14 days out. I……

“The St. Elmo is under renovation. We were upgraded to a first floor suite which was nice. However, our stay was not as pleasant as the previous year because there was no breakfast included ... not even coffee in the morning. Last year there was a marvelous breakfast, but because the hotel is under renovation, the dining area was not available. I expect that everything will be outstanding once the renovation is complete.”

“The hotel was a small but lovely place. We had a room with a full size bed, we thought we were getting a queen, and a shared bathroom, that we were told was very nice bathroom. The shower was like a camoer shower, the way it was explained we wete under assumption it was a spa like bathroom. I understand most Colorado does not have Air conditioning, it was 85 degrees in the hotel at 8PM. Large steep flight of stairs to walk to the rooms wasn't pleasant for a handicapped person. The property description doesn’t mention that there is no elevator and that there is a single flight of steps up to the rooms, all of which are upstairs. “The manager was very helpful at first. Then when we found the toilet in our room running constantly and not able to be flushed, he became almost completely unhelpful. He acknowledged that he knew about the toilet but there was nothing he could do. Finally, when pressed he said there was one other room that he could give us with 2 queen beds. “This is a really funky, quaint historic hotel. Great location, you can walk all over Silverton and to the shops and restaurants. My son and I stayed on our way through to our home in Northern Colorado. We were in the two bedroom room. The beds were super comfortable and we slept really well. Our main complaint was that we couldn't see in the bathroom, there was one little light by the mirror.
