The southernmost city on Oregon’s coast has plenty to keep you in the state. Relax at the beach or explore the charming downtown.

Brookings is the southernmost city along Oregon’s coast. Just 5 miles (8 kilometers) along scenic Highway 101 south of the city limits, you will find yourself in California.

This small city is known for its pristine beaches, Harris Beach the most popular, especially for sunsets. Fly a kite in the ocean breeze or spend the night camping in the beautiful natural surroundings.

Crissey Field State Recreation Site is one of Oregon’s newest state parks. Travel to the mouth of the Winchuck River and wander along miles of beaches and wetlands or enjoy the new state-of-the-art Visitors Center.

Surfers will find a great swell near South Jetty throughout the year. Watch commercial fishing boats coming to the jetty with the catch of the day. Salmon fishing is popular in Brookings. Venture out to the Pacific Ocean or stay in the tamer waters of the Chetco River. Many guides in town will show you the best fishing places.

Although Brookings is small, it has a charming downtown. Have something to eat at one of the restaurants in town or watch a movie at the local cinema. See the antique logging and farm equipment at Brookings-Harbor Museum.

Near the center of town, visit Azalea Park. Known as the “Crown Jewel” of Brookings, this small park is filled with flowering blossoms, playgrounds and sports courts. See a concert at Capella by the Sea, a beautiful event space within the park.

Explore the area’s natural beauty along one of many hiking trails in town. Bomb Site Trail was targeted by a Japanese bomber during WWII in hopes of starting a forest fire. Follow paths leading to secluded beaches and stunning cliffs at Chetco Point Park.

One of the most famous roadways in America, Highway 101, runs through Brookings. Called Chetco Avenue within town, it also serves as its main road. Drive along the entire West Coast on this north-to-south highway, which runs through Washington, Oregon and California.

The location of this single wide mobile home was incredible; on the banks of the Winchuck River and a ten minute walk to the beach! We watched waterfowl, heard owls and saw a fox. Our family booked this house with another family and it was perfect and kid friendly, my 3 year old spent a lot of time playing and sitting in the recliner by the window looking outside and the beach access was great for the kids to go out all they wanted.
