Top things to do in Sinaloa

Sinaloa

Chat to locals in the colonial villages, explore the cultural attractions in the capital city and relax at the beach in this varied state.

Mountainous inland terrain and a coastline of pristine beaches make up the eclectic state of Sinaloa. Its Pueblos Magicos add a mysterious charm, while the stretches of sand and vast parks are less crowded than in other parts of Mexico. Admire the colonial architecture in the quaint villages dotted around the province.

For an insight into the state’s culture, visit the capital of Culiacán in the valley by the Culiacán River in central Sinaloa. Take shelter from the hot, humid summer weather with a trip to the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Pablo de Villavicencio Theater and the Sinaloa Art Museum.

Bring kids to the Sinaloa Science Center, where they can take part in activities and learn about the world around them. Take advantage of a nice sunny day with a stroll in the Culiacán Botanical Garden or the Culiacán Zoo.

Consider a change of pace, with a trip to Mazatlán, a beach resort on the Atlantic Coast with ferry transportation to Los Cabos on the Baja California peninsula. Make the most of the year-round tropical heat at Playa Norte, Olas Altas Beach, Brujas Beach and El Cid El Moro Beach.

Go out in the Golden Zone for upscale restaurants and bars. Children will love the Mazagua Aquatic Park and the Mazatlán Aquarium.

Visit the nearby Pueblo Magico, Cosalá, for its colorful façades and mountain views.  Pueblo Magico, which translates to “Magical Town,” is a term used by Mexico’s tourism body to promote a village that offers a “magical experience” because of its history, culture, natural attractions or other features.

In the north of the state is another charming village, El Fuerte. Relax in the quaint plazas and see the Municipal Palace and Museo Fuerte by the Fuerte River.

The state of Sinaloa is right across the Gulf of California from Baja California Sur in western Mexico. Much of the province overlooks the water and is bordered by Sonora to the north and Nayarit on the other side. Fly to Bachigualato Federal International Airport in Culiacán and get around the state on buses.

Sinaloa is about colonial villages, sophisticated cities and tranquil beach resorts.
