“We had a fabulous stay at Casa Sophia at Alma del Rio. The house is even more beautiful than the photos show. The thoughtful design, attention to detail, and execution are all very impressive. I look forward to seeing the additional lodgings completed. We especially enjoyed the view over the forest and the rainwater shower. Birding from the upper floor was fantastic. “The cabin was pleasant, had basic necessities. I deducted two stars because there was absolutely NO COMMUNICATION from the host. The site said there would be no one present at check in and directions would be sent prior to arrival. I heard nothing, even after reaching out multiple times. I was concerned about arriving in early evening and not knowing how to get in. Turns out there was a lock with a key in it in the front door. Also, not this host’s fault, but it was IMPOSSIBLE to get through……

“Our family of 5 stayed in two cabins in late December 2023 and had a great time. The cabins were clean and the beds were very comfortable. Each had a porch looking out over fields and the Macal River. Manon was a fantastic host. She gave us great recommendations on places to eat in San Ignacio and things to do in the Cayo Region. The Lodge is down a dirt road that is very bumpy (like most roads in the region) and became very muddy because of the rain so we parked about 1/3 mile from the lodge……

“What an amazing experience! Hadas was an amazing host, and very helpful and informative! She helped us book an amazing tour with Jamal who picked us up for a wonderful jungle pontoon experience, which I highly recommend. She helped us navigate the area with excellent tips on where to go, and what to see. The house itself is AMAZING! The view is even better than the pictures show. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to cook. We hit the farmer’s market for some wonderful……

“The place was very nice and very spacious. The balcony on the rooftop was very enjoyable, with lots of different birds to watch on the surrounding trees. The bedsxwere comfortable and the washrooms were very clean. The proximity to the center of town made forc pleasant little walks. The host responded in a timely manner and was helpful.”
