Greeted with a mimosa! Had a room with a balcony view of the ocean. Tried all the restaurants- the Mexican & Steak place were the best. The buffet breakfast was delicious choices. Enjoyed the PINK party. Served many delicious drinks. Always found a spot on the beach or the pools. The hot tub was great for one raining morning. The hotel was very clean and there were always cleaning staff in main areas. Food was exceptional. This is a more laid back resort which was fine by us however there is access to the other Riu properties for those who want more of a night life. I cannot say enough about the staff and service. You really feel that they care and all work very hard to ensure guests needs are met. The property is kept super clean and well maintained. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and quiet and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony that overlooked the pool and ocean. One reason we returned to the hotel is the food! The variety and preparation is exceptional, and I did not have any issues with my strict gluten free diet. Every restaurant had great choices - as did the buffet. Our favorite restaurant was the Krystal and the lobby coffee/ice cream bar is a nice bonus. The pool and beach areas get busy, but you can always find a lounger. Evening shows were enjoyable, and we did not miss leaving the resort after dark. We loved the view from the balcony, and the water pressure in the shower was great, but the room was a bit dated, and the beds were horribly uncomfortable. We did enjoy going to the gym everyday, as well as hanging out by the pool and swimming in the beautiful water. We tried the gourmet restaurant Krystal and the Japanese restaurant Sakura; both were just okay.. We ended up at the buffet for most of our meals, and loved the little coffee place by the lobby. This resort is very clean, the staff was super friendly, and they have 3 pools - something for everyone. Personally, I don't care for the party scene but we met so many nice people and had a lot of fun wherever we went. Riu Palace runs like a well oiled machine, something I appreciate. On our first day we complain about the shower not working correctly and or fridge was not stocked. Maintenance came out and did say shower was not working. They moved us room 455 to 855 with a horrible view. The following day the call us to the front desk and insisted we pay for a broken television and a crack phone. Wow! Mind you we didn't get into our room till 8pm. They told me and my wife we were to pay $500 US dollars or the police would be called to make a report and escort us off the property. We had 9 other family members staying there and didn't want to ruin our family vacation so im out $500\. On top of that 4 of our group got food poisoning from what we narrowed down to the Japanese restaurant. The rooms are starting to show their age. Now the good which FAR outweighs the bad. When you get there you’re greeted by excellent staff. Roberto was my favorite. He was such a huge help to us setting up rides to places as we don’t speak Spanish and he spoke great English and is just a super friendly man. My other favorite was the theater bar at night where they had great shows every night but more importantly the two bartenders out there, Eulices (which I’m sure I have spelled wrong) and Ernesto were fantastic!!
