The main resort was nice but we couldn't be happier that we upgraded to the coral level. Far more relaxed and adult centered. Food and Drink were fantastic and the staff were great. Food was excellent--so much to choose from, you can't go away hungry. Loved the special food at lunch by the pool. We traded the animals of the Iberostar Tucan in Playa del Carmen for the city life of Cancun. Didn't see a lizard but lots of local birds. The beach was great. Pools were sparkling clean, but a bit cold in February. Entertainment in the way of mariachi bands and other basic dancers, etc., was a bit lacking. I expected more shows and live music around the property. The resort is stunningly beautiful and very well decorated. The beach is lovely and the water colour was spectacular. The pools were very nice as well. The food was amazing with lots of great fine dining options. Make sure to make a reservation for the Japanese restaurant early. I also greatly enjoyed the nightly entertainment shows. My favourite show was Viva Mexico, which showcased dances and music from various regions in Mexico. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms were very clean. The first room we got had too many issues. It’s washroom’s exhaust fan was making screeching noise, but since the light and exhaust were both operated through one switch, we HAD to hear the noise and cant avoid it. The bathroom door had a wide gap and the person using it could be seen easily. We got our room changed which fixed the exhaust system issue but see through door gap was still there. The room’s jacuzzi’s hot water supply was not working. And the main door made a loud screeching and thudding sound when used. We also were given 2 double beds when we booked for king sized bed. The room was not being cleaned properly. This is my 5th or 6th time at this resort. I've spent over 50k US over the last 8 years at this resort. We went down to the performance area to watch the Super Bowl and were told to have a table, we needed to buy a bottle of overpriced alcohol which was displayed on a table. This immediately put a bad taste in my mouth. There are not enough restaurants for the resort. We showed up at the italian restaurant and got in line at 5:20\. The front desk had told us the restaurant opened at 5:30 but they actually start taking names at 5pm. We had to wait 2 hours to finally get a table which is too much. Also, the outdoor area of the main buffet that was sequestered for the italian restaurant was not in use that evening with increased our irritation. The resort should have never closed down the mexican restaurant (the version that had a buffet). Aside from that, the beach has improved since last year due to the reclamation project. Food was very good. Soup at japanese restaurant needs improvement. Staff is consistently friendly.
