Don't bother going here.

Posted May 3, 2015
We upgraded our room as much as possible, only to be disappointed upon arrival and throughout our stay. We booked a king size room, with jacuzzi on balcony. We got two double beds pushed together with a crack in the middle of the two and a jacuzzi that did not work. The outdoor shower drain was clogged and maintenance took four days to get there to fix it. No amount of asking resolved our issues. We were even told king sized beds did not exist at their hotel. HA! The buffets were inedible, the restaurants made it somewhat better but not great. The staff was not around when needed. Room service took over an hour and food came in cold. Rooms were not made up until 3-4:00 in the afternoon. While we paid for premium, premium drinks were not to be found. The bell-hops were slow, the bugs were plenty and the place was far away from any outside entertainment or activities. The last few days our maids stopped leaving coffee and toiletries even though we were clearly out of those items. Tipping didn't encourage better service and we were left needing another holiday. Don't waste your money here, the weddings aren't that great either, and they pack in as many as possible each day. Which closes down the restaurants for the guests whom are staying there.

Beautiful, Clean, Straightforward

Posted May 2, 2015
Pros: Nice rooms, awesome pools, beach close by, and wide variety of food and drink options.
Cons: At times, the service was bad unless we gave a tip prior to even getting drinks.
Location: Among seemingly a thousand other resorts on a beautiful beach nearby the second largest coral reef in the world.
Very impressive cleanliness and upkeep in the rooms, the restaurants, the common areas, and the beach. Food was inconsistent in quality but we always had a nice variety to choose from whether it was breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks. The staff sometimes employed the "good service for good tip" philosophy. We found that tipping ahead of time normally got us the quality wine, prompt service and good food that we hoped we'd get anyway. But for an all-inclusive resort with "gratuity included" per Expedia, this definitely had an effect on our overall experience. Overall, a beautiful resort with attentive staff and strong amenities. The pool with swim-up bar and short walk to the beach were my favorite part of being there.

Nice, Mexican decor, grounds on one level, walkways

Posted Apr 29, 2015
Pros: Mexican decor, food was good, servers were efficient and friendly, pools were all wonderful, lots of green space and covered walkways, entertainment
Cons: Brochure could state dress code and reservation info.
Location: Perfect location and many excursions were available
Our daughters wedding, very well organized only glitches. Daughters room that was first assigned wasn't as expected but they did get upgraded to a better room. The sound system during the ceremony was very poor, couldn't hear a thing. Over all it was an excellent trip and we all had a great time. The food in the buffet and the a la carte restaurants was fabulous!

Bites

Posted Apr 28, 2015
Pros: The food was great, pools nice and close to beach.
Cons: Maybe disinfect the chairs in lobby
Location: We took a cab everywhere,it was 30 minutes from everywhere.
First night when sitting in lobby I had 15 bug bites on my legs. The bites were huge terrible looking. I think they came from lounging in lobby because we hadn't spent time in room yet.

Pros: Many options to choose from as far as restaurants, staff was very helpful and pleasant
Cons: Maybe a shuttle service to the nearest town, it was expensive for taxis
Location: Many excursions to choose from
We had a wonderful time, the resort was very clean and staff was very friendly. With 4 pools to choose from, you could have a quiet place if need be. Beach was beautiful with staff making sure that it was kept clean and picked up.

A great value in a beautiful setting!

Posted Apr 21, 2015
Pros: Price, amenities offered. Some of the restaurants. Evening activities.
Cons: They need to change their policy regarding saving of chairs. We had two confrontations when people comandeered our chairs while we were in the pool.
Location: There are many activites and outings. We chose to go to Puerto Morales to shop at the open air market stalls.
Overall we had a wonderful time. The setting is beautiful. Most of the staff is excellent and provide good service. There are fun activities planned for the evenings. There are many choices for meals. One thing the hotel needs to address is the chairs around the pool policies. There are about 200 chairs for 500 guests. We had two nasty confrontations with people stealing our chairs and putting their bags on top of ours while we were in the pool. We are from the Midwest and have better manners than some but I didn't enjoy dealing with that on what is supposed to be a relaxing vacation.

Ok place to stay.

Posted Apr 19, 2015
Pros: The rooms are very nice, comfortable beds. The refrigerator was restocked daily, which was nice.
Cons: The massages are very nice, but the spa tried charging us for too many. Be very careful of what you sign. I feel they tried ripping us off.
Location: We used Best Day for our shuttle and for a excursion. They are amazing! Very helpful & easy to deal with. I would definitely recommend them.
The resort is very pretty, the staff is helpful and friendly. The food is ok, nothing spectacular. Some of the restaurants are closed on certain nights, it's very confusing! I think when you check in, you should be given a listing of all events for your entire stay. And which restaurants are open which days, etc. It's very confusing to keep track of. And also, you can't even get a bottle of water until 10:00 am! Some people in our party had the privileged package, I think this should be offered to everyone making a reservation. We couldn't even lay in their area or order certain alcohol. I definitely would have upgraded, but didn't know about it until it was too late. Being told to leave a certain area of the beach, because there were waiters, and I did not upgrade to a certain package was humiliating and not a good feeling. It really turned me off from the resort.

Nice hotel, service is inconsistent

Posted Apr 19, 2015
Pros: Good drinks, okay food ( vegetarians), nice pools, okay beach ( lots of seaweed ), inconsistent service
Location: We took a catamaran tour to Isla Mujeres with Albatros, great time!
We had a great time. The rooms were clean and beds were nice. There are multiple pools for everyone. The beach does have a lot of seaweed but we still enjoyed it and were able to get in the water. There are servers for the beach and pool. Corona on tap. A really nice coffee shop. The food is okay. We are vegetarians and didnt have trouble finding something to eat. Service is very inconsistent. We found Ricardo Poot at breakfast and lunch and Alba at the pool and they gave impeccable service! They should be training the staff. We didnt get the Premium package upgrade and dont see a need to. Definetly get a Ocean View Room ( 2nd floor or higher).

Relaxing vacation

Posted Apr 17, 2015
Pros: Most of the staff are pleasant and friendly, they work very hard to make your stay enjoyable. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and clean.
Cons: The beaches could have been cleaner, there was a lot of trash that never seemed to get picked up even though they have beach staff around all day.
Location: Short distance to the airport. There is snorkeling, diving, sailing, shopping and excursions very close by for everyone to enjoy.
We had a very relaxing vacation! This was our second stay at Ocean Coral but we are not sure that we would go back. Check-in was very rushed, it was a busy time but we were not given any hotel information. We were told to bring our room key to the bell boy station who took our room number and gave us directions on how to get to our room, since we had been there before we found our room with little trouble. Other people that we talked to did have problems finding their rooms. We had asked for a king size bed but had 2 full when we arrived. Our luggage was brought to us about 20 minutes later by a very pleasant bell boy who called housekeeping for us and had our beds put together. We were located on the 3rd floor and had a wonderful ocean view. The rooms are nice and clean but the tiles in the bathroom did show some age and could have been cleaned up a little. There are lots of restaurants to choose from, reservations are not accepted, but the wait time was generally no more then a half hour depending on what time you arrive. The food was average. The beach was large with lots of room although the water does have a lot of seaweed, a tractor cleans the seaweed from the water line all day. The 4 pools are beautiful with lots of chairs, you do need to get there fairly early to reserve them though. There is a children's pool, pool with a swim up bar and a quieter pool. There is also a pool for the privileged guests. We did use the spa which was also very nice.
