I’ll start with the positive; the property is big, clean and there’s quite a bit to do for everyone in your party. The bad; the dining is subpar and everything is a hike. The restaurants are only open at certain times and they will tackle you if you try to take food out of the restaurant. They are extremely inflexible and difficult to deal with when exceptions need to be made. Also, my son got sick, requiring medical attention. The on-site doctor was nice and provided good care, however, she/the resort transferred us to a hospital that will not work with insurance even after assuring us that they would. Come to find out that the resort gets a referral fee from the hospital so it’s a huge scam and the hotel is in on it. I argued with the hospital to let us go but had to pay $1400 or their security guard wouldn’t let us leave. The concierge promised many things to make our experience better, none of which actually happened. I had to get involved every time. Forget about food allergies, they suck at dealing with them. Steer clear from this place unless you expect your vacation to have no unforeseen issues.

Food was sub par. Service in restaurants was poor. Was not horrible still had a good time, just we as a family would not return to this resort. Grounds are well kept. Definitely not a 5 star resort, would rate it as 3.5 * to 4* food was just too poor to be considered a 4 star resort.

I’ve been in many hotels in the area since 1995. Paraiso Maya is really good except one thing: the sea beach. You practically cannot swim because of underwater rocks. Can you do something about it. I know another hotels and chain do something about it and creat good swimmable water entrance. It is expensive, I know. But we pay foe sun, sea, food and accommodation. The 3 components are great, the one is missing.

We have stayed at this resort 5-6 times in past and love it. New water slide was fun! Nightly entertainment as been changed since our last visit few years ago- A fun fire show, soap sud pool party with cover songs and dancers, Brazilian show were definitely highlights. Abundant food, super safe resort, easy check in, efficient scheduling of restaurants at check in, eco friendly water stations were great, adequate covered lounge chairs by pool and beach. Stores on property very expensive so come prepared. We unfortunately needed a pair of flip flops for our teenager which ran us 87.00. They have stopped using towel card system and now easy towel access which is more in keeping with this higher end resort. Great resort for families. Minimal time share solicitation. Book it, you’ll have no regrets. We will be back. Resort 30-60 min from airport based on traffic.
