Visit The Andy Warhol Museum to trace the development of the pop art style, seek out your favorite pieces or find out what other artists have to say about one of the 20th-century art world’s most influential figures. Opened in 1994 with a mission to make the eccentric artist’s work accessible to the general public, this museum consists of 17 galleries spread over seven floors. Head to the galleries that focus on Warhol’s art from the 1960s to see some of his most well-known works. The famous Campbell’s Soup pictures and his portraits of celebrities are still as bright and arresting as ever. Art enthusiasts will enjoy the opportunity to discover more about this iconic artist in the exhibits dedicated to his lesser-known pieces. A detailed collection of sketches shows the development of his style in the gallery dedicated to his early career. A collection of his many self-portraits gives some intimate and surprising insights into the artist. Those with a passion for movies will enjoy the entire floor dedicated to Warhol’s experiments and achievements behind the lens. Here you can watch more than 350 films by Warhol, including The Chelsea Girls and Empire. You could spend anything from a couple of hours to an entire day in this museum. There are about 100 sculptures and 4,000 photos of/by the artist, and testimonies from other artists who have been influenced by his art. To learn even more about one of America’s most innovative artists, attend one of the daily talks featuring different areas of Warhol’s work. Ask at the reception desk for times and details. And if you’re looking for a special date night, check out the Good Friday events, when the museum stays open late to host talks, theater performances or wine tastings. The Andy Warhol Museum is located on Pittsburgh’s North Shore, just over the Andy Warhol Bridge. There is a charge for entry and the museum is closed on Mondays and national holidays. Paid parking is available just to the north of the museum.
