Galveston's East End captivates visitors with its stunning Victorian architecture and the historic Strand District. Nineteenth-century buildings that survived the 1900 hurricane line charming tree-shaded streets. The neighborhood balances tourist attractions with authentic local life, offering a glimpse into Galveston's rich heritage. Cultural treasures await at every turn. The Grand 1894 Opera House anchors the district while maritime museums showcase the island's seafaring past. Bishop's Palace and Sacred Heart Catholic Church stand as must-see landmarks for history buffs. Walking these peaceful streets feels like stepping back in time.

One of our favorite little weekend getaways is a quick 45 minute drive from Houston. The Hotel Galvez and Spa has been the grand hotel of the Galveston sea wall since 1911. Originally built to help Galveston tourism recover from the devastation of the great hurricane of 1900 that almost ended the life of this island city. Charming architecture, beautiful pool, great bars and amenities. Given its age and history it has more than a few ghost stories as well. The Hotel is a member of Historic Hotels of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

San Jacinto

San Jacinto in Galveston offers a glimpse into the island's rich past with significant historical landmarks. The neighborhood's crown jewel is the Art Deco San Jacinto Building that survived the devastating 1900 hurricane.
