Beautiful beach, awful food...

Posted Jul 3, 2014
Pros: Enjoyed the beach, the staff, the activities.
Cons: The food!
Location: Rented a car and drove around the island. The east side is very rustic and the beaches have waves. Definitely would recommend checking it out.
The beach at this resort was quite beautiful, white sand, private with no vendors bugging you. And the resort itself was lovely. It was a good size, not too big (hate having to walk a mile get anywhere), but had all the facilities that we could want. Most of the staff was very friendly and helpful. However, the food was very disappointing. First of all, the breakfast and dinner buffet was in a windowless dining room above the lobby. You had a choice of sitting in an overly air-conditioned room or an incredibly hot, stuffy room. The food was basically the same for each meal and not very good at that. Lunch was at least served in the outdoor dining room near the pools and beach, but the buffet was again lacking. The Mexican ala carte restaurant was fine, but the Oriental Restaurant was dreadful.

Nice but noisy

Posted Jun 14, 2014
Pros: Beautiful garden, nice pools
Cons: Clean restrooms and food
A couple on the other side made loud noises and woke my kids up, very awkward trying to explain to kids that they were not birds. The wall is too low and thin. You can hear neighbors clearly.

Resort and staff were awesome, room was terrible

Posted Apr 18, 2014
Pros: The staff was awesome. Some selections of food were outstanding. None was terrible...except the Chinese restaurant. That was gross. Crusty sushi.
Cons: The bathroom in the room was the worst.
Location: It's isolated. Be prepared for $32 round trips to San Miguel or pretty much anywhere else on the island. Ferry to Playa is a great option though!
The room had bugs in it, which I imagine is difficult to prevent in this climate. Also, the bathroom was atrocious. There was some goop on the shower wall that was never washed off, the soap dispensers had a little mold growing on them and it was very outdated. The rest of the property was pretty nice, but I'm not saying it was great. The staff was generally awesome. People were friendly and worked hard to keep you happy.

love the tropical feel and the size of the resort.

Posted Mar 31, 2014
Pros: the pool staff was great and the iguana's in the morning and afternoon by my room was very fun.. very beautiful trees and flowers
Cons: well ... the well needed facelift will help and maybe newer matresses.
Location: went to a few restaurants.. no excursions.
we overall had a great time. the resort needs to be refreshed and i hear they are doing it ... i did not like that you only get 2 reservations (i do not recall reading that on the Allergro home page). as I am not a fan of buffet. It was decent, but the restaurant food was better.

Allegra Family resort

Posted Mar 30, 2014
Pros: the staff was friendly, just ensure when you do your bookings for the restaurant's that you double check to ensure you got the right venue you asked
Cons: Hotter meals, ashtrays for the beach areas, better catering during the nightly entertainment. the Beds way to hard and I like a firm bed.
Location: Close to several ruins, good tequila tours, close to moped or vehicle rentals, lots of reefs nearby to dive or snorkel
Go early for the food to get the best selection and to help ensure the food is hot if it is to be hot. beds were as reported hard and tiny as doubles( we're used to a king bed) TV in the room very tiny and poor quality picture. we didn't go to watch much tv but it is nice to wind down the day before bed or in bed. the rooms were clean and the ladies left nice towel animals everyday. make sure you check your meal bookings for venue and times. we had 3 bookings and not one of them was for the venue and time we had requested. they did accommodate us after we asked but it was not the easiest. I hadn't checked due to not carrying my glasses and just trusted they gave me what I had asked for. Lesson learned there. it was a fairly good family atmosphere with only a few young rowdies at the bar pool side but they didn't get out of control to make it hard for us to keep our early teen daughter still with us in that location. Beach volleyball was lots of fun with a good mix of ages playing and having fun together. I wish they would have more ash trays for the smokers on the beach the butts in the sand was nasty. being an ex smoker that would have used ash trays if they were available I am certain most people would have used them if they were there.

March Break in Cozumel

Posted Mar 21, 2014
Pros: The Occidental Allegro handled the capacity crowd very well. The staff were always friendly and speedy with their service.
Cons: The rooms could have been a little more luxurious and spacious.
Location: Its a great location because the beaches are better than they are closer to town. I also like that it takes less time to get down the island.
This is the first time in years that I have travelled during March break, and I wasn't looking forward to the crowds. Other than a couple of short waits in line for a restaurant table (the lunch restaurant took longest) or at the bar, our whole stay had a spacious feel to it. We would definitely return to the Allegro as we love that part of the island.
