Definitely a 5 start hotel!!!

Posted May 26, 2015
Cons: Restaurants were difficult to find without bothering the staff: put up signs. The boutique did not sell items I would take home to family.
Location: We just relaxed at the hotel the whole time. We were only there for 4 nights and 3 days so we just enjoyed the beach and pool and restaurants.
What a wonderful staff, beautiful location and relaxing vacation. Very zen-like. Excellent restaurants and beautifully creative food. The hotel itself is just beautiful and the rooms are so spacious with lots of luxury! Treat yourself with a trip to Grand Velas!

Beautiful hotel but poor beach

Posted May 6, 2015
The hotel as a whole was beautiful, clean and luxurious. The staff were superb and we had a wonderful time. If you want peace and tranquility you are better staying at Grand Class because Zen and Ambassador were mobbed with children and music. The beach was a let down as the sea was not particularly clean like other parts along that coast.

Wonderful Resort

Posted Apr 30, 2015
Pros: The pools and the service. The rooms were large and very clean. Very comfortable beds.
Cons: The beach was not that great. The sand was beautiful but the ocean was merky, rocky and there was a lot of seaweed.
Location: We did not leave the resort. We were there just to relax.
Great resort and service. The grounds are beautiful and the pools are great. I loved it! There isn't a thing the staff wouldn't do to make our stay the best.

A wonderful place to rest or party

Posted Apr 27, 2015
Pros: Cleanliness, food and service
Cons: The beach, but not sure it is really possible
Wonderful facilities, excellent condition, very friendly staff and fantastic food. the zen place while not directly on the beach allows a real resting possibility, away from the night party noises. The pools are amazing, and beach looks beautiful, but the sea access is terrible and there is no real swimming or snorkeling possibility on site (the hotel however offers boat trips if interested).

Beautiful Hotel with Amazing Service

Posted Apr 21, 2015
Pros: Service was the best
Cons: Beach
Location: Never went anywhere but Playa del Carmen is 10 minutes away. I was too lazy to go
We stayed 6 days in the Zen area. It was very peaceful and relaxing with a very cool garden/pond in the balcony area. It's a short 2 min ride to the main hotel area and beach. I was worried about that but it was no big deal. I would stay at the Zen again because it is so beautiful and "zen". Very contemporary and asian style. Food was terrific and service was the best I have ever experienced. Beach was ok. Lots of rocks and weeds. Sand was nice though. Pools were beautiful. Kids club was nice. They actually had 2 kids clubs. They had activities ( and even a small animal petting zoo) for the kids. We only went one day as my 4 year old just played in the sand all day. Very family oriented. Kids not allowed in certain adult only restaurants so we could't go to those. It was fine because the other restaurants were good and they have all kinds of food for kids. Not much entertainment that I saw. Maybe in the adults only but we never went. I would go back. Many left their kids in the kids club alone with the staff. I could never but some did.

excellent staff, they go way out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay ( the concierge called his friend to bring a charger to our camera). the quality of food was great specially the "Sin Lin" and "Azul" restaurants. you don't feel like you are at an all inclusive resort. plenty of space and a lot of attention. Two thumbs up. we are already planning our next trip to Grand Vellas.
