"Top choice."
I was searching for a bit online for the best hotel choice since there are so many in downtown Santa Fe. I highly recommend this one! The location is perfect, and the staff are so courteous. This hotel is very elegant and not kitschy soutwestern like some others in the area.

Inn of the Governors

101 W Alameda, Santa Fe - Map
"Convenient Hotel in the Center of Town"
Inn of the Governors was a charming place with a somewhat typical but not overdone Southwest vibe. The staff was friendly and helpful; the rooms were small but well appointed; the beds extremely comfortable. The location was perfect: it was only a few blocks from town center, the restaurants and the great galleries and museums. The Del Charro- the restaurant that seems to be attached the Hotel- is excellent and serves a delicious breakfast.

"We stayed three relaxing nights."
On a long road trip with lots to see. It was very refreshing to be at the Villas and not have to rush around. It was quiet. The bed was luxurious and I appreciated the over head fan. We cooked in the comfort of our own condo. Grocery store and plaza all within walking distance.

"Wonderful hotel and spa in the center of Sante Fe"
First, we obtained a fabulous froom rate via Expedia. The El Dorado is a lovely hotel / spa just a block off the central square of Sante Fe, with a beautiful ambiance and wonderful spa facilities. Perfect for a mother / daughter getaway weekend. After a busy day of shopping, we settled in for a comfortable evening starting with an incredible dinner at the hotel restaurant: 24 oz steak dinner for two. The wine selection was terrific. Dessert was chocolate mousse and creme brule accompanied by Naked Cowgirl Martinis (chocolate of course). After a wonderful night's sleep we went for massages, body wraps and facials, followed by a steam bath. The staff was courteous, the facilities were spotless. Our only regret was not being able to stay longer and explore the rooftop pool and hot tub.

"A unique experience for us"
This hotel has a style that we Midwesterners had not experienced before: a classic Santa Fe motif. It's an historic hotel, but apparently recently renovated and very clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is right on the Plaza within walking distance of museums, restaurants, Canyon Road shops, and much more. would definitely stay here again.

If you prefer to travel with your four legged companion, don’t worry. You can even find pet friendly hotels all over the city. Some of the best hotels in Santa Fe even extend special services just for your pet, including treats, a special bed and possibly dog walking. Make arrangements for such perks in advance whenever possible. Planning Santa Fe vacations is both easy and difficult. Canyon Road is well known for its art galleries. The Palace of the Governors chronicles the history of the city and region when it was still under Spanish control and nearby historic sites will fill your days. Make sure to drive out to Bandelier National Monument for a hike. Climb around the ancient cliff dwellings and view the petroglyphs. In the evening you can enjoy the Opera, in season. You can also wander the Plaza and stop for a nightcap in one of the many clubs which feature live music.

Perhaps your goal is to relax and do nothing. In that case, one of the luxury hotels that is actually a hotel and spa is more appropriate. Santa Fe has several to choose from, and the treatments range from the commonplace to the decadent. Many of the services offered reflect the Native American culture of the region such as a Desert Salt Glow or a Cloud Dance Wrap.

Reviews of La Posada de Santa Fe Resort & Spa

“Very friendly staff eager to make your stay perfect. The interior of the hotel and the grounds are beautiful, full of great art work, wonderful ambiance. The food was excellent too!”

“Charming hotel with the real feel and architecture of Santa Fe. Walking distance to the Plaza and the wonderful art gallery walk along Canyon Road. Friendly staff. Clean and quiet rooms and casitas. Not a box hotel. Lovely grounds, pool, spa, restaurants, bar, and free valet parking. This is the real deal, if you are looking for luxury old style resort. We would highly recommend it.”

“Staff was very friendly and helpful. We were at the concierge everyday with questions about our plans and places we wanted to visit. Though four rooms were housed under one roof, it felt like our own little pueblo with private outdoor patio. We could meander through the landscaped pathways leading to each pueblo. The complimentary shuttle was priceless. We could be dropped off or picked up within the downtown area. No need for a vehicle if just touring around the plaza and downtown area.”

Review of Hotel Chimayo de Santa Fe

"I had an amazing room, which they had upgraded when I checked in. It had a fireplace, which they lit both nights I was there. It was perfect and so relaxing. The room was incredibly cozy and clean. It was in the heart of downtown, so I was able to walk everywhere. The bartender at the hotel bar gave me a great recommendation for dinner, and the staff was overall friendly and very accommodating. And there was convenient parking for my rental. I'd go back in a heartbeat!"

"This hotel is very nice and loaded with a southwest ambiance. It is about half a block from the plaza, and a two to seven-minute walk to several of the restaurants. This hotel is situated just off the plaza, which made it convenient to visit with many local vendors on a Saturday or Sunday. Most of these vendors are from many of the Native American Pueblos that surround Santa Fe. We had a very nice stay, and the front desk staff was nice and professional. The parking in the basement parking garage ($16/day), and made parking easy instead of driving around the block to find parking."

"This hotel is in the perfect location! It is small, but cozy and the staff is incredible! Please do not miss breakfast at Tia's Cocina-their restaurant (amazing). Get a fireplace for the cozy nights. The balcony is really nonexistent, though still great."

Reviews of La Fonda on the Plaza

"We loved the history of the hotel, the numerous original artworks through the hotel, including in our room. The decor of the dining room/restaurant is stunning and the food was excellent. Thoroughly recommend it - in fact we have been raving about how unique our stay was to all our friends."

"Loved the traditional old west style hotel. Great room with fireplace and stacks of piñon wood. Enjoyed coffee each morning in front of the crackling, fragrant fire. We had drinks and enchiladas in the bar, breakfast in the French bakery, and another breakfast in la plazuela. All were very good. Hotel is spotless. If you are looking for a vibrant, festive hotel right on the plaza, then choose this one. Also, live music in the bar each night except Sunday. We really enjoyed the country and Western swing band!"

"Beautiful, historic hotel, recently renovated rooms with a modern southwestern style. Perfect location right on the plaza. Wonderful helpful staff in every part of the hotel--the front desk, the restaurants, even the parking garage! Very comfortable beds, great bathroom. Excellent restaurants. The $12 lunch buffet has some of the best enchiladas you will find anywhere in the world. The main restaurant in the central atrium is lovely. Highly recommend. "
