My husband and I wanted to visit Edinburgh during our trip to London. I booked this apartment hotel based on the reviews, which were spot on! I could not have picked a better place for our three day visit! The hotel is in the very heart of Old Town Edinburgh, across the street from the St Giles cathedral, a 5-minute walk from the Edinburgh Castle and 5-10 min walk from a number a great restaurants. We arrived two hours before check-in time, but the friendly staff let us in our amazing one-bedroom apartment early. Some of the walls in the building are from the 1500th century, but our room seemed brand new, as if we were the first people to stay there. The kitchen was well equipped (refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee maker, stove, dishes) and the bathroom was super clean and modern. The train station is a 10-minute walk away and the bus to the airport a couple of minutes, down a long, narrow, old flight of stairs: perfect if you only have a carry-on with you. The only problem with this hotel would be if you are handicapped: I don´t think you can get there from the street without using some stairs.

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at the well positioned Edinburgh hotel. Lovely room very quiet and spacious. The breakfast was extremely good lots of variety to suits all tastes. Staff were friendly and attentive. We also enjoyed cocktails in the fresh and funky bar.

This is the third time we've stayed at the Holyrood Aparthotel, and it continues to be our first choice in Edinburgh. The staff are excellent, the rooms are spacious, well-appointed and clean, and the option for ordering breakfast items is very helpful. We ordered the breakfast items for 2, at 7.50 pounds sterling per person for our first morning there, and had more than enough food to last all four mornings of our stay. Wifi was free and worked very well. The location is excellent- we were able to walk everywhere.

Hotel in a great area near the Royal Mile. Hotel staff very efficient friendly and terrific to deal with. Hotel itself is a little tired and could do with some updating and "sprucing" up. Overall a good experience with a fair price. It did exactly what we wanted it to do.

Edinburgh for Hogmanay (New Years). Arrived at EDI airport. Into town via Airlink bus service (Tram service now available since last trip). Treked up the hill to the old town - Stay Edinburgh office a bit obscure, but easy to find using directions and a good map. Check-in very cordial and efficient. Treked further up the Royal Mile to Ladys Step Close, then around the back to a turret staircase entrance. Quite a climb up three levels to the room. Apartment was small but had all amenities for a comfortable stay - TV, wifi, refrigerator, microwave, teakettle, washing machine, cooktop, pots, pans, dishware, untensils, etc. Location superb - windows fronting on the Royal Mile and a short walk uphill to the castle. (aside - strong legs required as old town Edinburgh is up and down with few level stretches) Excellent food available everywhere - contrary to preconceptions, haggis is a delicious fare. Many museums and interesting sites and activities within easy(?) walking distance. Prolific shopping available locally and down in new town area. Hogmanay was an excellent and well run celebration akin in many ways to a New Orleans Mardi Gras. Location provided services essential to enjoyment - Royal Mile pub open to 3am, a "chippie" on the Royal Mile open to 4am and a club on the backside of the hill open until 5am. Checkout at 10am, but the office will hold bags until required departure for the airport - plenty of time for last day tourism and shopping. Fantastic stay.

Great staff, quaint old building right on High Street. We had a top floor apartment that had to-die-for views. Everything is MODERN and SPOTLESS and CHARMING!!! There are a lot of old, steep steps to get up to the apartment but we loved them. GOOD EXERCISE! We will stay there again when we return to Edinburgh. The staff is young and friendly and SO HELPFUL!!! We are so fortunate that we made this choice!

"Friendly staff but too noisy early in the morning"
The hotel mentions on the site that it is undergoing refurbishment and noise free rooms can't be guaranteed. However, I got woken up by sawing and banging from the room upstairs at 7.30am one morning. I think it's unreasonable for a hotel to start that kind of work before 9am. They should mention how early the noise will start as I wouldn't have booked into this hotel if I had known. However, staff are very helpful

Everything was perfect from the location to the staff (concierge, Paddy, in particular) to the comfort of the room. We were on our honeymoon and were immediately greeted with champagne and chocolates. We had breakfast every morning in the brasserie, which was delicious, and the high tea was the best we've ever had. They have an outstanding gluten free menu available at every meal, and it is just as delicious as the standard menu. We loved everything about the hotel and recommend it to anyone and everyone. Doubt we'll ever stay anywhere else in Edinburgh but The Scotsman again.
