"Location was great. Rooms and beds are old and it seems to be clean but when housekeeping is turning over rooms, clean sheets and towels are on the floor outside of all of the rooms. Breakfast had plenty of food options as much as you want and only £10 pp. All staff was charming and helpful. Beds were soft/older with pancake pillows. Price was ideal. It is the oldest hotel in town with a lot of history. Although it would be amazing with a makeover, “The Sally” would be a lot more expensive."

"We’re to start room was dated bathroom especially shower was burning hot no cold water at all the cold tap at sink did not work at all either there was old furniture and switches put on upside down The restaurant was basically the bar and was full of very drunk kids due to the racing so we didn’t feel comfortable sitting having a meal when we tried to drive to get something else to eat as everywhere else is a good 15 walk we could not as our car was blocked in as car park was not equipped for all the spaces that were marked so we had to walk as no staff at reception to help us and eat cold food in our room with plastic forks also the fire alarm went off twice around 12,40pm we had to leave the building no staff at all just followed the crowd out and back in again defo would not be back "

"A busy lively hotel. We stayed for the etape Caledonia cycle. The hotel was very proactive and offered a takeaway breakfast and bicycle storage. Although the hotel had live music and a good atmosphere, our room was quiet and peaceful despite being directly above the bar. We had dinner in the bar and the venison burgers were delicious.The staff were very competent and friendly. Will definitely return to McKays!"

"New parking charge of £10 per day. Ants in bedroom, pool locker jammed and had to wait 25 mins to get clothes etc and asked for a towel to be told to use the hairdryer to warm myself. No plug in wash hand basin. Feel that hotel has been let to run down lately. Food expensive !!! "

"Breakfast buffet was a good selection, only problem was the warmest thing was the plates, alll 'hot' food was cold or luke warm at best, cold fried eggs are not great, food quality was good but just cant seem to keep it warm, i suggested a microwave in the area to heat up the Breakfast as ive found in numerous hotels elsewhere, said we'll look into it, i cant possibly be the only person that's complained !!. So a single room was obviously small but tidy, clean and warm only problem was my window faced a brick wall and was covered in pigeon faeces all over outside and was all over window sill and brickwork all around and opposite my window, pigeons nesting all around and constantly chirping all nights, i couldn't open window for any fresh air because of the obvious pigeon droppings which are dangerous to human health if you have any respiratory problems, suggest this is an immediate clean up as it was very off putting, staff seemed aware of this but the pigeon mess still exists. I SHOULD HAVE TAKEN PHOTOS !!!"
