Not what I expected.

Posted Aug 12, 2014
Pros: Staff was great.
Cons: The whole hotel needs to be rebuilt. Not comparable to other Cid hotels in Mazatlan and Cancun. Very old and rundown, small pool, and no beach!
Location: Very far away from downtown plaza. Must take a $15 dollar cab each way. Not many eating options either, only Ernestos or Paprika are walking distance.
Hotel is ok but expected a lot better. Lobby is extremely small, no A/C, pool is very small too. There is no beach where to walk for a morning or evening stroll. That was a major downfall as I book beachfront hotels for this purpose. Room feels small, old, and half of the things did not work properly. A/C went out, lights went out, phone was not working, restroom got stocked up, door would jam when closed. I could not believe I was staying at El Cid hotel, as I have had excellent experiences at other locations like Mazatlan and Cancun. All the issues were taken care of by the excellent staff immediately.

Nice hotel - close to the beach, cruise ship pier

Posted Aug 5, 2014
Pros: Very convenient for diving.
Cons: Beds could be a little softer.
Location: 3 miles south of the main tourist shopping area.
We've stayed at La Cieba twice recently and I stayed at it several times in the 1980's. Established, well run hotel. Part of RCI chain. Has both All Inclusive (AI) and European options. Clean, open lobby, right on the beach with a pier for dive boats to pick you up. Cruise ships dock in front of hotel and there's a shopping mall right across the street. Hotel is located about 3 miles south of the main square.

Staff was very attentive to detail. Everyone was helpful and friendly. Grounds were well kept and neat. Food and drinks were excellent. Recommend getting the all inclusive package. Best deal around!!!

Not what I was expecting

Posted Jul 1, 2014 on Hotels.com
The room smelled of pine sol, the bed was not comfortable , the air did not work well. The restaurant was good and the servers were very nice. The lady who worked the front desk was very mean and tried to add extra charges from the restaurant, it was a good thing my friend spoke Spanish to help figure things out. I would not stay there again.

Great hotel for the price

Pros: Staff, food, location, cleanliness.
Cons: The pool & fitness center were a bit small.
Location: Mall across the street, submarine tour & swimming with sting rays are all within wakling distance.
We switched to the El Cid in the middle of our trip because the previous hotel we were staying at fell far short of expectations. We're Cozumel "veterans", but had never stayed at the El Cid before. Other than only having a 1 medium sized pool & a tiny fitness center, all other aspects of the stay were wonderful. The staff was quite attentive, and I do need to give a shout-out to Daniel & David, who were very helpful when it came to booking a couple of tours. Room service was very responsive & housekeeping kept the rooms immaculate & knocked on the door asking if we needed service within minutes each time I removed the "Do Not Disturb" sign. Overall, the hotel, although older than most on the island, was kept very clean top-to-bottom. The food was excellent, especially since we had the all-inclusive package - I was pleasantly surprised. Finally, the overall atmosphere was relaxed and laid back - I've stayed at the Cozumel Palace before, which is one of the nicest hotels on the island, and although it was also a great stay, it was quite crowded and a bit rowdy at times. We experienced none of that at the El Cid - always quiet, peaceful & relaxing. I highly recommend it & we will be staying there again on our next trip to Cozumel.

This hotel is very old. The beds are not comfortable. The room smelled like pine sol. The restaurant was good with a great view. The lady at the front desk was very mean and tried to charge us for extra stuff. I would not stay here again

A good, middle-priced hotel

Posted Jun 24, 2014
Pros: Location makes it accessible to town or going South.
Cons: The hotels menu, pretty boring but the food is decent, overpriced...but good overall.
Location: Right in front of the cruise ships, which blocks a lot of the ocean views(to the left/West). Not many places to eat within walking distance.
The rooms need a little updating and the floors can get slippery, fast due to all of the foot traffic(in the room). They need to add some small rugs to keep from tracking water everywhere.
