Nice hotel and staff, without beach

Posted Jun 29, 2015
Pros: Rooms are big, people really nice.
Cons: Entertainment staff, particulary kids club, there was a lack of direction, they didn't open when they should do and activities for kids were limited.
Location: Location is really good, you can walk to 5ta avenida, about 15-20'
We stayed with my family at this resort for 8 nights. The hotel looks really good, pool and amenities, but unfortunately it has not beach. On top of that there is a pier where around 15-25 boats park every day, so you don't even have an open ocean. The portion of the beach is really small and you can't move since you have piers at both sides. Sometimes there was a bad odor coming from the ocean, not sure if because of the algae or something else. The kids club was not very operative, didn't open when they were supposed to, avitivities were limited, etc. Everything else is excellent!

Don't expect to be impressed.

Posted Jun 26, 2015
This is a starter resort for sure. So don't expect the world and you'll be ok. They charge for a security box in your room. Others don't. They have a restaurant that is a $6 up charge per person but you don't have to go there if you don't want. Only one section of the pool has good music where you can hear it. When asked why the other end doesn't play it we were told they play the same music for ten years. Lol the food was probably the worst area of our entire week. We paid for all inclusive to enjoy free meals but wound up eating out most of the time because the food was either too authentic or disgusting. There are a few things that are good but definitely don't plan on any dessert. The bed was hard like sleeping on two sleeping bags laying on a tile floor. The sink faucet was rickity and the shower head needed to be fixed as well. I would say this place was more like a holiday inn with a beach view. Rather than a resort. Needless to say, we will not be spending our money to go back.

Not a happy customer!

Posted Jun 16, 2015
The resort had all these hidden fee's. No wifi. You have to pay $15 extra each day to have it. Also get charged $3 a day for the safe box in your room. The beach infront of the hotel is horrible. Too much see weed. Would not refer this resort to anyone. Service sucked!

They need to work on their hospitality... Some of the servers specially the capitan/host on the Italian restaurants they didn't have that touch to be serving guests...

Beach front is full of boats!!!

Posted Jun 14, 2015
Pros: Pool was maintained. Cold A/C
Cons: Customer service, beach cleanliness, variety and quality of food, awful plumbing, hotel maintenance
Location: Obstructed beach due to over 50 fishing boats parked in ocean in area meant for hotel guests. Strong smell of exhaust. walking distance to 5th avenue
We checked in at 4am, room had no running water. Called reception and was told they would send maintenance. 30 mins later, problem could not be fixed. Called reception again to be switched to another room. They said could not switch because they were booked 100% and the only room available was a room that was just vacated. Was told that I would be "allowed" to use restroom in this uncleaned room but could not stay there. I asked if they could clean it so we could switch and was told no because housekeeping does not arrive until 9am. My husband went down to reception and was told that I might have misunderstood and that we would be switched. We didn't get to our new room until about 5am. The key card reader on our door broke down and we couldn't get into our room. Had to walk to reception several times because they kept sending different maintenance guys to fix it. One guy would leave to find a "part for the door" and another would come start over again. When I tried to complain, the guy at reception would not make eye contact or apologize for the inconvenience. It was obvious he did not care. We continued to have problems with door throughout stay. Housekeeping would forget to leave towels and soap. We had to call and wait to get those items. Construction work being done on hotel at all hours. We would wake up at 3am to banging hammers. Food in buffet is terrible. Mexican restaurant is ok and service there is good. Snack bar food is better then buffet but wait is over 30 min

Nice Hotel

Posted Jun 13, 2015
Pros: It was clean, affordable and the staff was very pleasant.
Cons: Fairly terrible smell outside my room from the kitchen exhaust, it constantly smelled like old eggs and rotten meat.
Location: Very close to the 5th avenue.
I had a very pleasant time at The Reef Coco Beach, the staff is very nice and the hotel is kept very clean. The drinks are good and the bartenders (especially Eduardo, in the sports bar) are all good at what they do! The food is fine, but nothing that I am missing.

Needs improvement

Posted Jun 11, 2015
Pros: Nice pool. Victor was most helpful and friendliest. Maid service was good
Cons: Food needs improvement, entertainment needs improvement, over all hotel needs improvement
Location: Don't know we left
We ended up moving to another hotel. The hotel is getting run down. They said they were slowly replacing things, so once they get that done it will be a nice, small resort.

Not the room we booked

Posted Jun 7, 2015
Pros: The staff was extremely friendly and try to make your stay as nice as possible.
Cons: Someone should be combing the grounds for cleanliness. We had a rib bone on our deck that we shared with 6 other rooms that sat there for the week.
Location: Scuba Playa has a great staff and made our dive easy. Tulum Extreme was crazy fun and our guide Julio was super knowledgeable. We also enjoyed Xcaret
We were very disappointed with the room. It looked more like a Motel than a Hotel. We had two Full beds instead of the two Queen size beds I booked. We were too tired to complain and just went with it. We were later shown the rooms you get with a time share whatever and that seemed to be the room I had seen when booking.

Nice hotel great great great location!

Posted Jun 5, 2015
I usually stay at Riu resorts when i go out the state, so i was really hesitate that this resort was going to be better! With that being said i did enjoy this resort alot very small and private, totally different from the Riu. The room was very clean and nice, could use a few updates to the room! The buffet was ok with selection of food, but the taste of the food was great. The other 2 restaurant was really great, i recommend everyone to upgrade ur services when u get to the hotel, its worth it! What really made me love this resort was the location, great location really close to 5th Street, we walked down 5th street everyday! All in all the stay was nice i will stay at this resort again! But not better than the Riu resorts
