Naturally beautiful, historic and packed with exciting entertainment options, this Ottawa neighborhood is a favorite among locals and tourists alike.

The Glebe neighborhood blends the old and the new with attractions to suit everyone. Find artisan gifts in charming boutiques and pop into trendy restaurants as you shop. From biking to kayaking, outdoor activities are framed by historic buildings on leafy streets and sprawling green parks.

One of Ottawa’s first suburbs, the Glebe is named after land that was owned by St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. The Aberdeen Pavilion, built in 1898 to host agricultural shows, rests at the center of Lansdowne Park. Allow plenty of time to visit this multi-purpose attraction filled with gardens and playgrounds.

Lansdowne Park is also the home of TD Place, with indoor and outdoor stadiums hosting Ottawa’s top sporting events. Book a ticket to see Atlético Ottawa, the Canadian Premier League Soccer Team or the Ottawa BlackJacks of the Canadian Elite Basketball League. Or, watch a live music concert by world-famous performers.

Enjoy time in nature along the green banks of the picturesque Rideau Canal. The stone-walled canal is a UNESCO site with pathways to suit walkers and cyclists. Take a guided boat cruise or paddle a kayak to explore the urban waterway. The action doesn’t stop in winter. When the surface is frozen, you can skate along the iconic Rideau Canal Skateway.

As you explore the Rideau Canal Pathways, signposts lead the way to attractions and cultural exhibits describe historic events. At the Parks Canada Lockstation, discover how the manually operated Ottawa Locks system works. In summer, watch as staff open and close the gates by hand with iron winches. You’ll learn all about the canal and Ottawa’s history at the Bytown Museum.

Shopping and dining revolve around Bank Street. Find unique shops and vintage treasures. To see brick homes dating from the 1800s, take detours into the picturesque residential streets.

The Glebe neighborhood is just a quick bus or taxi ride from downtown Ottawa. It’s a walkable neighborhood and you’ll see many attractions via the Rideau Canal Pathways. Fly into Ottawa

International Airport or take a train from Toronto or Montreal to discover this iconic neighborhood.

Centretown

4.5/5(135 area reviews)

Known for its ample dining options and fascinating museums, there's plenty to explore in Centretown. You can visit top attractions like Elgin Street and Canadian Museum of Nature, and jump on the metro at Parliament Station or Lyon Station to see more of the city.

Centretown
Skate on the world's largest ice rink. Every year at this time, Gatineau and Ottawa host a shared event called Winterlude. It's a festival that I've gone to since I was a little girl. It's a lot of fun for the whole family. All the events are free of charge and the festival snow bus is also free that takes you to different locations where events are being hosted and run about every 15 minutes. You can expect music, sledding, tubing, ice skating on the Rideau Canal, original snow taffy made with real maple syrup, ice sculptures, free hot chocolate, coffee at some locations, and so much more. I highly recommend if you are in the area. #Winterlude #Quebec #Ontario #Gatineau #Ottawa #tourism #Thingstodo #Festival #NationsCapital
