Great Resort!!

Great experience definitely i would recommended to anyone. The staff at the restaurants I will rate then 5/5. There was a big line at the reception and it took forever in order to check in. They never explained the whole preocess. After a day we were able to find out all the amenities and how to do the reservations to the hospitals. I will rate the staff at the reception 2/5. The suite was great except that they were doing some type of construction next door and the noise started at 10 A.M. I was disappointed of the noise.

Amazing beach but food could be better!

This is our third year staying here. The beach is great with clear calm turquoise water. Although this year the food quality and variety was lacking not as good as previous years. Would recommend this resort.

Great place

The hotel has great facilities. The room, pools, gardens, restaurants and the beach are excellent. But there are a few things that they could improve on. The first one would to add personnel to serve drinks on the beach and get some extras for around the pool. In other resorts usually they have servers going around all the time. Another thing they can improve on is to make sure the restaurants keep the room temperature cooler. Two of the places I went for dinner felt hot. Lastly it would be nice on the restaurants you order a la carte, to make sure the portion size are a little bigger, specially in the japannes restaurant appetizers. Overall I had a great time and I would definitely go back to this hotel

Amazing Experience, Highly Recommend

Pros: Buffet Service was exceptional Clean Relaxing - it truly felt like everything was taken care of for you, and you could just relax.
Cons: If I had to make one suggestion, it would just be to play more music around the pools! It was so quiet at most of the pools.
I researched a lot of hotels before finally deciding to book at the Barcelo Grande Resort. There are many positive reviews, but some gave a negative opinion that made me feel a little concerned. However, I am pleased to say that this resort exceeded my expectations and provided our group with an incredible experience that we won't forget. There isn't really anything negative to say about this resort. The buffet was incredible, with many options to choose from and theme nights that provided variety. On a 6 night stay we received 3 a la cartes, and each meal provided a unique experience. I would highly recommend the Tokyo restaurant. It is both a show and a dinner, both truly unforgettable. The resort itself is part of 4 (excluding the Palace, which is a 5th resort in the complex that comes with a higher price). You can use any part of the 4 resorts, or pay a bit extra to access the Palace. My friends and I never felt the need to do this, as everything you could possibly want is available between Tropical, Beach, Caribe and Colonial. So many reviews made a fuss about being put into a different resort than the one they booked - but to be honest, it really doesn't matter. You will get used to the layout quickly and navigate around with ease. How much time is actually spent in the room, anyway? We were placed within one of the 5 buildings on the 'caribe and beach' side, but frequently used all areas of the resort. Also, this place is incredibly clean! We will be back!

Great Resort, Not-So-Great Food

Pros: The beach, the pools, the grounds, the dive shop, the many dinner restaurants that were included, the many things to do at night without leaving.
Cons: The food, particularly the buffets. The number of sailboats available to check out and the number of jet skis available to rent.
Location: Playa Del Carmen is a lot of fun. Mexxtremo Adventures ATV and Cave Tour is awesome. The ruins at Coba are worth seeing. Xplor is also a lot of fun.
The resort is beautiful and well maintained and there is a lot to do. The beach is great as are the pools. The buffet food was not great - much below what we've grown accustomed to at other resorts. The buffets were all that were available for breakfast and lunch, and by the 3rd day none of us were eating very much at these meals. For dinner, you could make reservations at one of the restaurants on the resort. These were very good although the ability to choose a specific restaurant and/or time were very limited. We made reservations for all nights when we checked in, and for most nights there was only one time at one restaurant available (on our last night we had a choice of 2 restaurants, and on one other night we had a choice of 2 times at the same restaurant, and that was the extent of our options). The drinks were OK although watered down (as usual at these places). Most of the bartenders did not speak english, so we were not able to order drinks that they were not familiar with. I liked the grounds a lot. The dive shop was great and the diving was very good. Folks that ran the shop were great. If you don't have certification, they will give you a short course and then take you to some nice spots. They had too few sailboats and too few jet skis to service the resort. We were not able to get reservations for either during the week that we were there. There was a lot to do at night compared to other resorts which we really liked.

We go every year. Grounds are beautiful; beaches are nice. Excellent ala cartes restaurants. Beautiful pools. Staff are great. It's s favourite with our friends and family. Lots to do.

Nice and fun family hotel

We had a great time! The water park was very fun for the kids and the service in the hotel was amazing. The only thing that needs improvement is the buffet. Needs better quality food. Overall had an amazing time

The hotel staff seemed annoyed and over worked. All of the workers looked like they didn't want to be working and besides a few of the staff, most of them acted like didn't want to be there and preferred to stand around and talk to their co-workers. We were not impressed with the staff at all.

Easy hotel with very nice beach

Pros: Beach. Activities. Stress-free environment. Pretty buildings.
Cons: Food and drinks. Some nature preservation.
Location: It's Cancun. Not too much to do outside of hotel. Some Senote snorkling pools and caves, ruins, water sports.
Overall a very good vacation spot. Big nice pools that do not get overcrowded. Easy to get a chair and towels. Beautiful beach- best yet we have found in Cancun. Few rocks and killer sand. Also not overcrowded and just enough shade. Big enough that there is something for everyone- teenagers, couples, families and partiers. Nice mall and good kids club and other activities (mini-golf, bowling etc.). Nice water slide options. Fun shows in the evening. Dinner was mediocre/OK. A couple of decent restaurants. Repetitive and uninspired food and drinks. Always running out of the better dishes. Confusion when seating. Drinks have chunks of ice and no natural ingredients. Little wait time for drinks though. Check-in was great. No pressure sales tactics. No people at the pools trying to sell you stuff. Very stress-free and relaxing. Great service other than at the restaurants. Very manicured area- no nature to speak of. Too bad because we enjoy the Senote forests, ruins, and the wildlife at other hotels a lot. Stayed in a room by the pool and beach with outdoor tub. Some of the other rooms seemed farther away.
