Nice resort with slow service and eroded beachPosted Nov 23, 2015
Wait times for front desk, bar service, and drink service at buffets were unacceptable. Drink quality was inconsistent, but always slow (often more than a 5 min wait). Dinner at restaurants (reservation required) was very good with great service. Hotel room was great Pools are set up well and don't feel overcrowded. Beach is badly eroded, but lounge area is nice. Guests can walk pretty far South along the beach, if desired. Staff were friendly and eager to help. Several buildings are a 10+ minute walk to the beach. Shuttle is not frequent enough so we never used it. Nightly entertainment was subpar. Carnival was OK, but the Grease show was a waste of time.

Excellent staff and layoutPosted Nov 12, 2015
The BlueBay resort was my favourite of the four resorts I have visited in the last few years. It was laid out nicely and easy to get around. The pool areas were clean and not hard to get a chair. The best part about this resort was the friendly and helpful staff. They were by far the best we had ever encountered. The beach isn't great. The food was amazing both buffet and a la carte.

Esmeralda package was great for stay with infant.Posted Nov 2, 2015
Pros: Service everywhere in the resort was excellent and very friendly.
Cons: The facilities are a little run down. There was some paint peeling and a bathroom tub didn't drain well, but we had two bathrooms so it did not matter
Location: We had a three-month old with us, so did not do any excursions. But the natural parks and their flora and fauna are said to be beautiful.
Basically we had the nicest rooms in an inexpensive resort. Our suite had its own deck and private swimming pool, and a limited menu breakfast, lunch and dinner in our room were included in the package. The building had its own very helpful concierge. Though a stone's throw from the main pool and beach, we only visited it once, since we had a 3-month old. This was actually perfect for us. I don't think we would stay with an infant at this resort without these perks, as managing the beach and pool (loud music, not many umbrellas) with an infant in this heat would have been too much. The buffet and main lobby were a 5-minute walk away through walkways with lush vegetation and healthy sea air. We couldn't understand how anyone could complain about it. The shuttles run every few minutes, but we never used them. Mosquitos are everywhere, and it was impossible to keep them out of the room. The resort sits in a very marshy area. We must have killed a hundred of them. But there are smaller flying insects (name began with a "t") that bit much worse and leave little red dots that itch pretty bad. These were harder to kill. So we were in the lovely, balmy tropics, weather 87 and sunny every day, but you had to deal with these. The buffet dinner was 3-star, but decent and extensive, fish, meat and salsa being the standouts. The restaurants weren't worth eating in, IMO. There is 1 beer in the resort (draft Dos XX lager). Liquor options pretty poor, so stuck to beer, rum and coke.

It was okayPosted Oct 19, 2015
Pros: Good and plenty of food and drinks
Cons: The raccoon creatures and mosquito population need to be removed
Location: Its in the jungle. There is nothing nearby
In general the staff at the hotel, in the restaurants and at the bars were pretty nice. The resort is in the jungle and its large. The rooms were nice, but had an endless amount of mosquitos in them. There were also these raccoon like animals running all over the property. They would knock over people drinks and go into their bags. It was pretty gross. The food at the restaurants and at the buffets was very good. I did not like that 2 hours of my first full day was wasted by a time share pitch

This hotel deserves 5 starsPosted Oct 3, 2015
Stayed there in May 2015 and loved everything about the hotel. Amazing food, great staff except for Front Desk!! The russian girl who checked us in was extremly rude and unwelcoming, I asked for a manager and they said there wasn't one available and her colleague said there isn't a duty manager!! Beautiful views, great night shows, clean rooms, adorable towel arts in rooms by the house keepers and my favourite was the night market they have over the week end close to the Black & White club. Activity staff were amazing and kept us entertained through out the whole stay. We had breakfast in tge same restaurant everyday and the reason was Agustin the waiter. He made every possible thing to keep us happy by giving us an excellent service! Short 10 min beach walk to a beautiful Lagoon close to Tres Rios hotel. 15-20 min drive to Playa Del Carmen which was very nice to spend some time on 5th Ave and surrounding stores. Beach was nice so was the pools. Would recommend it to everyone.

Nice hotel, friendly staff, great food!Posted Aug 26, 2015
Pros: The staff, the dining options, the value.
Cons: The free wiFy did not work, the lobby was oppressively hot --they could use some fans in there!
Location: There is really nothing but hotels in the area, but the tour companies offer lots of options and they are very well organized.
The hotel was decent for the price. The facility is very large and spread out. We were in building 5, which was close to the beach and the pool, but without the noise. There are 3 buffet style restaurants and 3 formal restaurants. We tried them all and were very pleased with the dining options. The room we had was average at best, but we were on vacation and did not plan to stay there too much! The bed could have been more comfortable. The staff was all amazingly friendly and accommodating. We were sold a tour at the airport that was probably too good to be true, but our hotel rep replaced what we purchased with something better ( thank you, Adrianna!). The hotel was a $25 cab ride from Playa Del Carmen, which is where the shopping and restaurants are, but they offer a shuttle service 3 times/day for $6. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.
