“This is an exceptionally unique property! This was our second stay at the retreat and our only negative comments are (1) we could only stay one short night, and (2) there were no fireflies!”

Lots of towels too!Only downside is it is hard to get airflow in there.And the table in the 2nd room (with 2 queen beds) is hard because the lighting isn't strong in there.We knew this in advance - its a kitchenette, not a kitchen! The counter ice machine was really helpful!We loved it and will be back!”

The house was clean, well-lit, and had such a cozy feel - especially the super comfy bed. “The space was welcoming, clean and quiet. It’s a fabulous location. We were at a family reunion but the location near the park offers a lot of recreational opportunities. There is a surprising amount of sleeping space. Shari was very responsive so any questions were addressed quickly. It was very hot so we didn’t spend much time outside but the new patio with the fire pit would be fantastic for cooler evenings. I was concerned that we only had one bathroom for 4 couples but there is a……

“The converted jail was such an interesting and unique place to stay. The property is beautiful, the house and room were clean and inviting, and the cell block was a great place to hang out and explore. We loved morning coffee on the balcony and the fabulous whirlpool tub for relaxing. Make sure to check out the incredible food at the local Algerian restaurant, and a lovely river walk, or explore the four story antique mall in town!”

“Good location, a bit noisier than I expected due to trains during the night and some construction. Close to Yellow River Forest, Effigy Mounds and Pikes Peak State Park. Comfortable furniture and bed. Kitchen area includes microwave and small fridge, no sink. Looked like a nice fireplace which I did not use. Shopping, but few restaurants of note on main street; a couple of bars and one gourmet store. Kwik Star right across the street which was convenient. Host was friendly and accessible.”

“The apartment is spacious, very clean, and comfortable. It features beautiful views of Elkader. The location is in easy walking distance to the shops, restaurants, and riverfront trail. I hope to stay again. ”

“We stayed in the pocket city penthouse. It was quite spacious, with historic charm (gorgeous wood floors), and had a wonderful view of the Mississippi. This place and McGregor in general, are gems for anyone who appreciates history-- and especially those who enjoy a mix of natural beauty and preserved architecture.”

“This property is well appointed and has a beautiful view of the river. There were 10 of us staying and we had plenty of room to relax and have privacy. The location is great for fishing, boat rental, and it has a convenience store very near. The train tracks are near which adds to the charm in our opinion. Ear plugs provided worked well. I highly recommend.”
