Our son is a student at MTU, so we are in the area numerous times a year. We have stayed at various other properties (both Airbnb’s and other hotels), but Independence Stay has become our go-to spot. The property is always immaculately clean, modern, and well-maintained. The staff is friendly. The rooms are comfortable, with just enough kitchen supplies...

“I like because is in downtown ”

“Great location where you can walk to downtown Houghton and Hancock easily. Multiple bars and restaurants less than a mile away. Clean, comfortable rooms with great beds and great kitchen set up. Great views in the rooms that open to the deck. The available services including laundry, gym and sauna are great. ”

“Started the reservation with great communication from owner and had to make changes to dates a few times and he was very accommodating. Over all the place was exactly as desribed and worked perfectly for quick access to snowmobile trails. Would definitely recommend and will stay here again in the future. ”

“The patio area was nice to sit at and enjoy a fire. There are plenty of wooded areas for privacy and dog walking. We enjoyed the clean, comfortable cabin. Our only negative was the sink situation was awkward as far as size of sink and faucet and lighting.”

“We were greeted at the door by our host. The appearance of the outside held dear the secret of the interior. The opulence and style. Every detail of our extremely clean room was taken into consideration. There were complimentary snacks and drinks of all kinds. Most places just give you sample soaps but beyond that they had q-tips, eye drops, ect... Every possible need was looked out for. The bed was great and the pillows even better and in abundance. These are the hosts with the most.”

“It was easy to manage 2 well behaved dogs due to the resilient floor covering and simple rugs. The kitchen was well appointed. The remote location was ideal and peaceful. Beautiful walks, wonderful cooked meals, reading and comfortable beds, made for a relaxing 50th wedding anniversary. ”

“We had everything we needed! Kitchen was well stocked, bed was comfy and plenty of clean linens and towels. The property was clean, secure, and decorated in a really fun way. Plows can be loud if you’re a light sleeper, just bring some ear plugs that’s a concern in the snowy season!”
