"This was actually a two night stay - two separate, sequential reservations - which the staff dealt with just fine on check-in, though despite getting my keys renewed first thing on Day 2, the keys still did not work when I got back to my room - first world problems! Biggest issue was that the hotel only had one working lift (elevator) for ten floors - you can imagine how busy that one elevator was! Breakfast was OK, though the eggs benedict was luke-warm rather than hot. Decent continental breakfast selection, but mini-croissants were not fresh, and there was a distinct lack of any fresh bread (only sliced bread for toasting) - a few baguettes would make a difference! The room was pretty spacious and comfortable and reasonably quiet. It looked a little tired in places, but nothing too troubling. The staircase used in place of the elevator service was somewhat grubby in places and not what would be expected of a 4\* hotel. The exit/entry off Calton Road is a bonus for easy access to Edinburgh Waverley Station. The gym, although small in size, was well-equipped with free weights, and the steam room in the spa was a real bonus."
