"I stayed at the Old Waverly Hotel with my daughter for a sightseeing trip in Edinburgh. You really can't beat the location. I had an amazing view of the castle from my room. It was an easy walk over to the old town. I also had easy access to multiple restaurants, pubs and stores. The City Link bus from the airport dropped directly in front of my hotel and the train station was across the street. Finally the tourist bus was a 2 min walk up to St Andrew's square. The people who worked there were friendly and the room came well equipped with coffee. It was clean and comfortable. Extra points for having cookies with the coffee service! I know they had a restaurant but I ended up just walking to local spots to eat so we never eat there. This is not the Balmoral. It is somewhere between a 3 and 4 star hotel. It is a clean, safe hotel with a great location. My only negative for the hotel was the shower and the wifi. You have to have an engineering degree to get the shower to work and even then it was not a great experience. Very narrow, low pressure and the water temperature just kept going up and down in the morning. I never got the Wi-Fi to show up for my phone but I was on the top floor so maybe that was it. But basically no Wifi. But outside of that a solid hotel if safe, clean and location are your priorities. "

"Booked this hotel due to proximity to Waverley station, just a short walk from the station lifts that take you up to Princes Street level. The hotel is currently undergoing a refurbishment so the hotel restaurant and bar were closed but they emailed in advance and offered a free grab and go breakfast (fruit, yoghurt, choice of breakfast pastry, hot drinks, juice). You could also order room service for evening meals and drinks, although I didn’t test this out, I just purchased food in the neighbouring Marks and Spencer Store on Princes Street. When booking the room I made a request that if possible could I have a room that was accessible via lifts or minimal stairs as I have multiple sclerosis and struggle with lots of stairs, staff were very accommodating, gave me a room near the lifts and actually upgraded my room for free, which was very kind of them. All staff that I met at the front desk were very friendly and welcoming and nothing was a bother to ask. I stored my luggage there on arrival prior to check in and on departure prior to check out too which was very helpful. I would stay there again mainly due to the location and friendly nature of staff, I only knocked off a star due to the renovation work and not having access to the bar or restaurant. "

"1st and best: you could not find a more helpful, professional and lovely staff. 2nd: The Scotsman is a step away from The Royal Mile: so museums, the Castle, Holyrood, restaurants, St. Giles,etc. Walking is easy. Shopping is a given. One thing to know about The Scotsman: there are stairs. The lift is in the process of repair so there are lots of stairs. But that being said: staff will help with all of it. "
