Basic hotel well out of Athens

Posted Jun 29, 2014
Pros: Proximity to the tram into Athens; decent air-conditioning; included a kettle
Cons: Room cleaning was a bit hit and miss: cups not washed; coffee and tea bags not renewed (we stayed 6 nights)
Location: The immediate area is somewhat bland and on a noisy main road. It is only 50m from the beach but you have to pay 5€ per person to get to it.
This family run hotel provided an adequate stay but quite basic. The patrons speak English, Greek and Russian (and maybe other languages). The room was air-conditioned and included a kettle and some tea and coffee. There is also a small balcony with a view of the sea ... just. Breakfast was adequate and the hosts very pleasant, but we had to go a couple of tram stops to find a decent place for evening meal.

two weeks in the plaza

Posted Oct 8, 2013
Pros: good base for coming and going as you want transport links very close and do not cost a lot
Location: take the time to go to the turtle rescue centre and have a look at the work going on there and leave a few euros to help them
Airport bus stops twenty metres past front door, met by Steve the manager booked in within five minutes room on first floor no lift but Steve took suitcases and showed us to our room and set the air con going as it was another hot day. Room was a good size bathroom ok and a small balcony facing the sea with a table and two chairs, the room had an empty fridge which is great as we usually find a supermarket and stock up coke, tea etc. The hotel is on a main coastal road and there is traffic noise but we knew this before we booked so no complaints. Directly opposite the hotel is the beach which costs 6 euros to go in and two loungers with a brolly is another 5 euros, the charge may seem a little high but the beach area is kept clean and well presented also there is an onsite café/bar you can order your food and drinks and they will bring it to your lounger. About a ten minute walk to town, plenty of bars and restaurants things start getting busy from 7,00pm onwards. The tram terminus is also about a hundred metres past the beach entrance 1.40 euros for a single ticket this will take you into Athens and terminate in Syntagma square. Steve and his staff were very helpful with information and nothing was to much trouble. We enjoyed our stay and will return in the future.

Relaxing

Posted Sep 24, 2013
Pros: Big bathroom, big room, coffee maker, big LCD TV
Cons: Nothing
Location: Last stop on coastal tram,South Beach Resort across street. Nice restaurants near by.
Was planning on staying one night, but it ended up four nights. Made it my base as I crisscrossed Greece. Athens was great I just needed some time away from big crowds.

Short stay at Plaza Hotel

Posted Sep 23, 2013
We had an excellent short stay. We were there for only one night. The hotel is clean and the staff is very nice. Restaurants are about 10 minutes walks, which is not too far. Easy access to the hotel by bus or taxi.

Pros: Check out
Very old & unkept in desperate need of TLC. No lifts. Had to negotiate 2 flights of stairs with luggage.

Loved it - went there in the 1st place because it was close-ish to the airport & also the water. Manager was VERY helpful with regards taking the X96 bus to & from the airport, + breakfast was very good & very cheap. Bathrooms had no outlets but extension cords in room made up for it. Staff available 24/7. Kiosk available 2 doors down for late-nite snacking, & right across the street from the bus stop.

Great location for the "Riviers of Athens south shore. Great help (carrying luggage), finding my way. NO lift. Far from Athens, airport--but excellent cheap tramway across street. Helen was MOST helpful.
