Careful now

Pros: Island
Cons: Food. Hot spa. Don't cover construction work with loosely piled plywood.
Location: Noumea is interesting...we wish we spent more time there
A lovely island. A hotel starting to get run down. Food awful AND expensive.

Escapade Ilot Maitre - room over the sea

Posted Jun 23, 2014
Pros: Its remoteness, the friendliness of the staff, the comfort of the room we were in
Cons: Food was reasonably priced but wine was expensive - like for like quality comparison, it is 3 x more expensive at the resort than Australia
Location: The secluded location makes it a quiet retreat for a get-away.
We enjoyed a wonderful long week-end and the staff was simply charming. The seafood buffet was delicious. Franck, the bar/restaurant manager was great and he makes great cocktails. He is a great entertainer as we found out on Friday night after dinner when we decided to sit at the bar and enjoy a few cocktails. The room over the sea was comfortable and had great ventilation by letting the windows. In summary, we give a big thumbs-up to this place.

Beautiful location, expensive buffet dinner

Posted Jun 15, 2014
Pros: The location
Cons: The rooms need refurbishing and a good clean. The glass doors require maintenance, very hard to open. A la carte option in the restaurant.
Location: Great snorkeling, just 7 minutes from Anse Vatu bay with water taxi
The location is excellent, very beautiful but unfortunately the rooms are run down and need a good clean. The pillows were hard, but on request we were supplied softer ones. The breakfast buffet was good and the evening buffet was very expensive, we would have preferred a la carte. Tip - take fruit and drinks with you for in between meals. The sun loungers were not outside the room, but a walk on the beach and we found some with our room number on. We enjoyed our stay but definitely room for improvement. Our room with ocean view was not very private, other guests constantly walking past, would have preferred one further away. The massage was excellent. Saw a turtle, nice snorkeling.

Great views and very relaxing

Loved the over water bungalows was a perfect location. Arranging a airport transfer was a little difficult due to us not speaking French. We visited in the off session so the resort was lovely and quite, so don't understand why they couldn't off an al a cart dinner option instead of buffet which was less than appealing and over priced. Lovely friendly staff and absolutely loved the fact you can go snorkeling off your rooms, and if your really lucky your get to swim with turtles.

Excellent

Very comfy and child friendly. We loved the ambience, the French wines and the service. Food menu was a bit monotonous and bland for our taste but the friendly staff was willing to cater for us

Ilot Maitre- l'escapade , our experience

Posted Jan 13, 2014
Pros: Bungalow on the water
Cons: food, service
We stayed 4 nights and had a great time. At your arrival, you need to buy a coach ticket to go to baie Moselle, in order to catch the boat. ADVICE: contact the hotel before arrival to know at what time the boat leaves for the hotel. ( the boat skipper didn't know we were coming and was not happy about that) We booked the Bungalows on the water which are absolutely fabulous, very private. Love it ! The ones on the island (garden / ocean view ) are very noisy due to the local birds. There are some earplugs in the room!! During our stay, the hotel didn't mention that there will be a techno party ( it happens every 2-3 months, you better check before) on the sunday from 9am-9pm. It was so noisy and drunk kids around, I would have expected and liked the hotel to inform their clientele... which they didn't... Food is not great and very expensive.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay

The resort was excellent, the rooms were nice, the island itself was beautiful but the restaurant and food options were not fantastic. It was too expensive for the quality of food.

Best way to experience nature close up

Posted Nov 30, 2013
Pros: The snorkelling with turtles, fish and rays right off the beach.
Cons: The buffet breakfast and especially dinner.
The situation of the island is fabulous and the closeup experiences of turtles, fish and rays second to none in being able to just swim with them right off the beach. The downside is the food - the buffet dinner is awful and the price extortionate with nowhere else to eat. Lunch snacks are good so buy enough for dinner in your room.
