Filthy Hotel

Posted Apr 16, 2015 on Hotels
I stayed at this hotel for one single night and I am glad it was only one night. The room was filthy, there are dirts(not just dust, it was literally dirt) and hair on the sheets and pillows; And towel is so disgusting, I found large green god-knows-what stuff on the towel. The breakfast buffet was a joke, I went there at 8 AM in the morning, and all food cabins are empty. This is just wrong for a hotel at this price. I would never ever recommend this hotel.

Kolkata Stay

Posted Nov 23, 2014 on Hotels
Spent a night at this hotel. The front desk and staff were cordial and allowed me to check in before noon. Upon arrival, receptionist mentioned that he has not received reservation details from Hotels website. I have stayed in many hotels across the world and would rate this one as one-star. The bathroom may be considered 'Ok' per local standards. There was a water bottle lying underneath the bed. The reading table was clean. Pillows were not comfortable and bed furnishings just of average quality. Dinner ordered through food service was expensive, includes unexpected service taxes, and poor in taste. Around 1:00 in the night, I was woken up from deep sleep by someone shouting and trying to open my door. I got scared and opened the door only to find a man asking if I had ordered a water bottle with room service (he was holding a medium-sized water bottle in his hand). Before going to bed, I had slid the horizontal bar to prevent intruders from easily breaking in. This hotel is located close to American Consulate, British Library, and Indian Council for Cultural Relations. It may he hard to get anything better for this price in Kolkata at the time of this writing.

Pretty good hotel by Indian standards. The breakfast is very basic but adequate.

立地がよくないです

Location: 市街地からは少し南なので、観光には不便です。
観光で利用するなら、もっと北の市街に安くていいホテルがあります。

No frills hotel with a bloated price tag

Posted Jan 9, 2014
Pros: Good location, the dhaba opposite has good food.
Cons: The decor, the wi-fi and the room comfort.
The Mangalam is a basic, no-frills hotel which doesn't seem to offer value for money. We stayed there (family of 3, myself, my wife and 12-year-old son) for two nights recently. For the price, one can get better hotels. The staff were friendly enough, but the room - an executive suite, we were told - was uncomfortable. The view was terrible and there was a lot of noise from the generator located close by. The wi-fi kept logging out and we had to ask for new passwords frequently since the old ones seemed to expire or simply refused to work! Overall, the place looked like an old house rather than a modern hotel and just didn't give the "happy holidays!" vibe. Just to compare with the Indian capital, such hotels are a dime a dozen in the Pahargunj area of Delhi - at a much more wallet-friendly price.
